Where do I start? My sister Charity and husband Brett wanted to take us for dinner a few years ago. They said that we were going to the”best buffet that you will ever have”. That’s a pretty tall order because this cats been around the block a few times and eaten all over North America. I hardly think the food in this little town in the middle of nowhere is that good… common Well holy blessings from heaven above this place ended up being just that. You are greeted at the front door by a friendly face and nice smile. Next you will be seated in a gorgeous dining area. The best part is the food though. A massive buffet of Canadian cuisine is waiting for you fresh and homemade. Everything is made from scratch and the meat is raised right in the area by local farmers and smoked on site. To say this meat and poultry is better than average is a vast understatement. The texture is chewier than normal meat because there are no additives or protein pump. It’s fresh and the animals cared for in the best possible way. The pork chops are cut thick, smoked wonderfully and then finished on the BBQ. The sausage is to die for, made and smoked fresh and then finished on the open flame. Steak served the way you like it. Homemade bread and desserts of all kinds. Cheese cakes, coconut and apple pie , rhubarb crisp; they have an ice cream machine with all the toppings. My first time there I hadn’t tried anything and was still at first glance not impressed. I saw meatloaf on the buffet and laughed. Who puts meatloaf on a buffet? I had to try this, my sister and her husband must be crazy. I got to my seat and started to eat. Every bite was like I was tasting the way things are supposed to be made for the first time…. I couldn’t believe it! I got to the meatloaf and ate my first bite. It was like heaven in my mouth and God talking to me telling me to go eat more. It’s so tender and the taste was different than I had ever had before. It was like cabbage rolls and meatballs and meatloaf in one bite… I could not believe it! Miracles do happen! I went up for seconds at a buffet for MEATLOAF! Wow my brain was hurting. What was going on here? I left the restaurant in awe and shock. Never before had I had such good food. They also have a store that sells preserves, meats, ready to eat meals, fudge, cheese of all varieties fresh, gifts and cards. Baked goods line the shelves, pies are on display for sale and all kinds of fresh bread. There’s a play area outside for the kids. The bathrooms are spacious and cleaned regularly. There’s a baby changing area. We officially had a new favourite place and I have to recommend you stop in for a bite my friends! Mmmmmmmmm yummy, yum, yum! Your mind will be blown and your mouth and body will thank you! Peace and love and blessings my...
Read moreI decided yesterday was the perfect day for a drive so I headed out to Pebbles. I heard it was an excellent Mennonite All you can eat buffet and was intrigued.
When I arrived I almost thought I was at Anna Mae's for a second. It has a very similar set up with a bakery/store at the entrance. I was seated quickly and set out to explore the buffet. There was a large salad bar, but I wasn't going to waste space on that and immediately went for the hot food and grill. You can see my first plate which had broasted chicken, ribs, a pork chop, honey garlic chicken wings and turnips. On my second plate I had steak, broccoli cheddar soup and meatloaf. For dessert I a small slice each of pecan and lemon meringue pie.
Over all everything was better quality than say a Golden Corral buffet. Nothing I tried was bad, but i did find most foods were in need of seasoning or spice and toward the bland side. The grill was the highlight and the sausage and steak I had were good. The pork chop had obviously been smoked or cured and was much more like ham than I expected. The highlight was definitely the broasted chicken which was crispy outside and even the white meat was still tender and juicy.
The dessert was definitely superior to other buffets with so much freshly baked offerings including atleast 10 kinds of pie. The Lemon Merengue was good. The pecan had great filling but an underbaked crust ruined it. I wish I could have tried more of the pies but my blood sugar was already giving me warnings so I wisely decided to move on. It was hard saying no to the fudge offerings while waiting to pay but I managed to control myself. I was impressed with the variety and creativity of flavours.
Over all I would give it a B. Everything was good but nothing really wowed me. With drink and tip it came out to about $50 but I also didn't eat supper because I was so full.
For atmosphere everything was new and super clean and....very very Christian. Your milage with that will vary.
Service was prompt and friendly but had a bad habit of taking my silverware ever time I went up for another plate and then I would have to wait and get a whole new set from...
Read moreBoth staff members we interacted with were courteous and friendly. Lorraine the greeter sat us at a table after verifying it was adequate. She informed us about the buffet and that our server would be right with us. Her name was also Lorraine.
Lorraine took our order for drinks and as I’d chosen the hot chocolate I was offered a selection of three different types. I prefer hot chocolate over coffee and ordered a regular one. My goodness it was amazing. Lorraine very delicately asked if either of us were approaching our senior years. We laughed and said we were both over 70 and thanked her for the phrasing of the question.
Lorraine was also friendly and professional at every visit to our table. Our dishes were discreetly removed between courses. I requested water and Lorraine brought it to the table quickly. Kathy had a steak she said was just the right size, perfectly done and brought to our table by the very competent and friendly chef. The selection of foods was perfect.
We had our main course, choosing the foods that were seldom eaten at home. All were excellent, hot and done to perfection. I had a selection from the salad bar. I found my favourite, pickled beets, by the condiments table. They were yummy. Next it was dessert and the selection of pies, squares, fresh fruit and ice cream did not disappoint. The portions were the perfect size to round out our dining experience.
We noted the blinds being lowered slightly and were pleased at the attention given to the process. Another one of Pebbles caring gestures. Thank you for our Valeline’s Day experience. It was worth every cent and the 90...
