I usually go to Baraka but had heard about Kings and based on the reviews I thought this place would be great and I wanted to try it tomight, but I did not like it. The staff were friendly, and there were no other customers so I was helped right away. The girl told me to have a seat which is fine but I just wanted to stand. The girl then asked me a second time to have a seat so then I felt like I had to explain why I just wanted to stand which I shouldn’t have to do. Im only going to be here for two minutes. Telling me once as a polite suggestion is plenty. Asking me twice is like you’re ordering me to. I was the only customer in the whole place. Was there something you didn’t want me to see you doing with my food? That’s what that made me think. I had decided on the “chicken platter” and the first negative for me was the price. It was $19 something for the chicken platter. Baraka is a bit cheaper and the container is always so heavy it’s so stuffed with food and delicious it’s actually worth the money. So I get home open up the container and the second disappointment for me was no pita bread included! Now I’m really hoping the taste will be good atleast. I might be biased as a Baraka fan, but Kings was just not good in my opinion. First taste right away I found it really salty. I chose the carrot salad and it had pomegranate seeds in it and they tasted like fermentation/old so I didn’t eat it. The rest was “ok”, but salty overall and I did not like it. Back to Baraka I go. Cheers to trying new things and waving goodbye to money spent on a dinner I...
Read moreOpening day for King's Middle Eastern Cuisine on Gateway Road! Very nice little spot - clean and nicely put together. Unlike the much larger mother ship, this location has their salads on display at the counter, and you place your order up front, and then grab a seat. I'm assuming there will be regular table service once their menus come in. Virtually identical offerings as the original location, with the exception of the fresh-baked breads. We enjoyed one chicken and one mixed platter, which is made up of thinly-sliced roasted meats, served on a bed of really nicely-spiced rice, with tahini and garlic sauces, plus sides of two salads and some great hummus. Both were hot, fresh, and delicious.
Service from the two people (I believe the owner's daughter?) running the place was warm, welcoming, and as friendly as could be.
It's great to have another really good restaurant to choose from in the area! I can see this being a HUGE hit once they get this location live on...
Read moreKings is one of my family’s favourite restaurants, so you can imagine how excited we were for this new location to open up! We love that we can now get our favourite food so much closer to us. That staff is fantastic, atmosphere was great, and of course the food was amazing.
We had the lamb platter, a chicken/beef shawarma combo, and another order of fries. The portion sizes are so generous (we went home with leftovers and I can’t wait to eat them for lunch tomorrow!), the food is so flavourful & fresh, and even my pickiest eater loves to come to Kings. She told me today that Kings is one of her favourite restaurants - and for someone who is an 8 year old “French fry-connoisseur” that’s saying something!
We didn’t take pictures, because we were too excited to eat, but we will definitely be back to this location!...
