The North Star Drive-In — Restaurant in Winnipeg

I must say this is quite a unique gem in the community, and has delicious things to offer I must say. But when it comes to price and the wait for your food kind of dumbs down the experience. Let's discuss. Firstly as stated the food is outstanding, nice and hot and always fresh food! I wasn't paid to say that but I'm just stating facts here. The burgers fresh off the grill are something to look forward too when coming here. But sometimes your order gets halted when they focus on other orders, no big deal. And the staff there are friendly as always. But here is where the negative things about this small joint come in. Firstly I feel like the cost for the food is too much, sure quality for price, but no. Yes it's homemade but 7 dollars for a deluxe burger? That's a bit too much. Okay the prices are wonky, and 6 dollars for 6 mac and cheese wedges? The wedges aren't even that big and it's like a buck per wedge! Okay that's way too much, so just bring down the prices and I think more people will be happy. And now the wait, you will wait at least 15 20 minutes when ordering. Now it's a small place so it's not as quick as mcdonalds ok, but when it's plus 30c. I hate standing out in the hot sun sweating. And yeah so they are a good food joint, but some improvements...

We drove specifically to eat here after it was recommended by a local that we met during our travels. We were not disappointed! We ordered the Deluxe Burger and it was delicious! We also ordered the Sweet Dream burger….wow!!! That was my favourite! It was filled with mozzarella sticks and chili. The chili was fantastic. Also the buns are so soft and delightful. I also had a Nutella Strawberry Milkshake as well…so yummy and creamy.

That was our food experience but the customer service was the other amazing part! They were so friendly when we told them we were from out of town and asked the recommendations. I wanted to try both burgers and asked for them to be cut in half. They not only did that but also wrapped them up with one half of each kind in the package. So thoughtful!

Then as we were leaving, I stopped back to thank them and tell them how delicious it was. They were gracious and then offered us each an ice cream on the house! My jaw almost hit the floor!!! What amazing customer service. They ended up giving me two flavours to try and big scoops! I was so blessed! The ice cream was also worth the trip……hmmmmm…..creamy…..just perfect!

I have been twice this summer, first time I ordered a Vegi burger received a regular meat burger, they were super rude about it! My second and which will be my very last visit I called in my order for a certain pick up time, was there on time but had to wait 10 minutes for fries, the Vegi burger was dry very little, almost none of the Curry Mayo sauce only ate half. Called the next day they offered another burger for pick up, the staff were rude, argued with me that the sauce soaked into the bun because I was late picking up my order... which I was NOT! told me next time to order extra sauce. I had never had to ask in the past! the replacement burger I picked up was good even though I was late picking this one up... but after a few bites lost my appetite thinking about the way I was treated... bad...
