EVERYONE should go to Trigo Food and Drink in La Flèche.
An outstanding dining experience - and experience is exactly the word. From the moment we booked, with a special seating location request, to the moment we left, with fabulous packaged next-day lunch leftovers in hand, we felt like we were the most special guests they had ever had. Trigo offers seasonal dining menus that reflect a foreign cuisine. The dishes are intriguingly exotic but not so outre that they scare the newbie diner. We were there for the Peruvian menu (ends July 27), and even though the restaurant is in La Flèche, two hours from Regina, it was worth every minute of the drive there and back (local accommodations are available for those who prefer not to drive home late). The multi-course meal started with a complimentary non-alcoholic aperitif typical of the region - it was so good that my mom had a large glass with her meal. This was followed by 3 varieties of seviche, a meat appetizer, and a salad, before we got to the main course. We had a choice of 5 main courses. The portions were so generous that we not only took home leftovers, but were quite full! The meal ended with a scrumptious 3-part dessert and home made chocolates. The cappuccino was great — and may be even better in the months to come as they going to start roasting their own beans. The entire meal was perfectly cooked by charming and engaging lawyer turned chef Adam - who also takes a turn as the chocolatier, and came out to chat with us! Service is by local staff, who are warm and welcoming, and always expanding their knowledge of the dishes and country they come from so that they can explain options and help the guests explore the menu. The restaurant is intimate but can accommodate larger groups - there was a step down section with a family/group of about 10, but most tables are for 2 or 4. For everything you get, the $75/pp price tag is more than reasonable. I have been recommending Trigo to everyone I know since we returned home, and am already planning on returning for my birthday in September, when they will be featuring an Austrian menu (can you say Sacher Torte? AND apfelstrudel?).

Read moreWe had a really lovely time. The atmosphere was great and so was the service. The food was also a fun experience. We had the Peru menu. First off, the value is insanely good. For the price, you get more than your moneys worth. Researching a culture and being able to fully understand its cuisine from a distance is no easy task. Having lived in the Andes for many years, I came in very knowledgeable about that part of the world. Only a few areas I thought could be improved in the food, some flavours that could have been developed more and some elements/ingredients of Peruvian cuisine that could have been used to get that full picture. These are simply my notes and by no means a negative on this experience. The food was great. For someone that has never been to the Andes or knows nothing of it, they won’t have the same view of this. Now in a few of the dishes, I thought they did it better than what I had in the Andes. The street food course was flawless. The main was beautifully executed. Not only was this worth the price, but it was worth the 2 hour ride from Regina (4 if you count the way back). Will be coming here again in the future. I recommend you do too if you’re in these parts of...
Read moreWe travelled from Regina to try out Trigo and it was well worth the drive. The food was excellent, and served promptly, everything was fresh and the experience was very unique. The service was excellent and our server was very friendly and attentive. I have had Georgian food before a few times, a couple times at a Michelin Guide restaurant and the food at Trigo was on par with that. I’ve made quite a few efforts to replicate the food so I have some knowledge on the cuisine and was impressed with the effort and research put into the menu and ingredients. Everything was authentic and wonderful. The attention to detail really shows - even having Borjomi, the Georgian mineral water. The portion sizes were very very generous for a tasting menu. The restaurant is beautiful and extremely clean, really nothing bad to say at all. I can’t wait to go back for the next menu, well...
