Haven't come here for a while due to Covid. A public car park is only about 100 meters away. However, as the park is free, selfish people park their cars for days so it's difficult to find a spot in the weekend. I came here this morning for breakfast as usual. The food is fine. For $40 (up to $48), I'd say it's very economical. Staff are friendly and helpful. Too bad the police were patrolling the area and we had to leave early. But without the police, illegal parking would be rampant and you couldn't even make a U turn! (Updated in June 2023 below) I rated this canteen 4 stars 2 years ago and I am sure this would be the last critic I'd write on it, unless it changes ownership) Simply put it, it's the worst canteen service I've ever seen. We came in at around 11 and they were the only opened canteen there. The one next to it was closed for good. The only waitress there was sitting in one of the chairs as if she had been working for 48 hr straight. My wife and I found a table next to her and she didn't move a muscle. We then started ordering the typical breakfast (now priced from$50 to $60), and she just kept sitting there until she finally got up and headed for the kitchen. Then I realised I shouldn't argue with her as she was the one who cooked for us! My wife ordered cold drink and I wanted mine hot, but she wrote "+2" twice on the order sheet so I had to talk to someone to have it corrected. One of the worst dinning experiences in these rural area. I won't be surprised if they are closing the...
Read moreWe visit this restaurant on average 2 times a year. Our favourite dish is the 'salt baked' chicken. There is also a decent all-day breakfast and a variety of soup noodle meals. Meal for 4 today cost HK$306. English menu available. Clean public toilet nearby. Dog friendly. Sweaty-hiker friendly. Outdoor seating available. Service is par for course with occasional good service. Keep your eyes on your food not on your phone while eating as this is a rural location or an unfortunate bug may find its way into your mouth. This only happened once in our many trips there and since it was not a roach I don't count this as a mark against the establishment. The place can get full at lunchtime on weekends and holidays. Our last meal there was 11am on a public holiday and we had no wait. Legal parking is scarce (but free), and plenty of illegal roadside parking is available, just be prepared for a jog to your car when the police van drives by. On our last two visits we did see the police come through early lunchtime to clear the illegally parked vehicles. Update: there is now (14 Feb 2022) a double yellow line streetwise. Today I got a ticket even though I was at my car within 30 seconds of the police arriving. Their police van blocked me and prevented me from leaving so the traffic warden could complete the...
Read morePopular destination for motorcyclists, motorist, cyclists or hikers. They would pick either this place or the one next door. You can see lots of motorbikes, or bicycles parked along side the shop or rails on a weekend.
Despite the name, this place isnt really happy or anything, but more frustrating. Staff is slow and generally ignores you unless you shout at them or call them out more than once. They have a good selection of food ranging from Chinese style breakfast to "American" or "English" style breakfast. The food isnt anything to write home about. its more like a destination attraction where people enjoy the ride through the mountains and stop here for a quick bite. I guess it depends what you want, if you want variety then this place is good. If you want a better overall experience with slightly more comfortable seating I would pick the shop next door.
Update: Updating my review and giving them a 1 star because hygiene is a serious issue with this shop. Opened a bottle of ketchup and noticed the bottom cap and the outer lip of the bottle is full of mold. Went to get another bottle myself from their storage and its just full of fly and other insects flying around. Cant really recommend this place anymore, just too...
