Han Shui Yao was one of the culinary highlights of my visit to Wuhan. I was brought there by some friends, and I’m honestly so glad they did. The restaurant is located right inside Dayu Myth Park, and the setting is simply stunning. We sat on the terrace which overlooks the Yangtze River, and the view alone is worth the visit. As the sun starts to set and the lights come on, the whole place takes on this warm, buzzing energy. You can feel it in the air. It’s vibrant without being chaotic, and there’s a real charm to the way everything flows.
We were a large group of eight and probably ordered close to twenty dishes, maybe more. Everything was perfectly timed. Each plate came out at just the right pace, allowing us to enjoy the meal slowly, one dish at a time. Not once did it feel rushed or chaotic, which is rare when you’re ordering that much.
And the food just looking back at the photos makes me hungry again. From the seafood to the vegetables, the cold starters to the sizzling meats, everything was well-balanced, flavourful, and beautifully prepared. There was nothing that didn’t work. Every bite had purpose, and you could tell care went into each dish.
Service was also excellent. The staff were attentive without hovering, and everything we needed was handled smoothly. The only small downside was the restroom situation. You have to leave the restaurant area and walk a bit outside to use the public toilets, which are a bit basic. It’s not ideal, but honestly, once you’re back at your table surrounded by good food and good company, you forget about it.
