Pizzeria De Luigi — Restaurant in Guatapé

Unbelievable experiencing of dining. While staying in Guatape we made the reservation via Whatsapp . The business is only open limited days/ hours and so we were very excited our trip overlapped. The location is not the easiest to get to, but the couple who runs the restaurant was so helpful and even helped arrange transportation with someone local who picked us up in their tuk tuk.

The ride in the tuk tuk there was a bit nerve wracking since it was pouring, and going down little rocky roads. but as soon as we arrived we immediately forgot as we were welcomed into the most charming home of this beautiful couple- a husband from Italy and wife from Colombia., The house is so cozy and well decorated and we arrived to candle lit tables and a warm fire. You can really feel the energy and passion of love behind this business, and that the couple has for each other. They only serve pizza, and drinks, but it is some of the best pizza we have ever had. We ordered two pizzas (personal size pies) and were able to order half portions of toppings, so we got to try 4 different types. There was different hot sauces and garlic oils to add and it was beyond delicious. It felt just like we were transported to Italy!

We had such a wonderful evening being taken care of and they were so so kind. If you come to Guatape you CANNOT miss...

We visited the old Luigi about 6 years ago when they were located around Guatape town square. Now, back in town, we remembered Luigi's as something special. Luigi's has since relocated approximately 20 minutes from central Guatape. The road is a bit bumpy, and it's advisable to use Wave instead of Google Maps to get there, as Maps directs us the wrong way, leading to a 30-minute detour.

It's a family-style diner where guests are welcomed into the owners' home to enjoy Neapolitan pizza, Italian wine, and a selection of soft drinks. Despite its simplicity, the experience is truly delightful. While Luigi's was memorable six years ago, this time it exceeded all expectations. Despite having traveled the world and visited Italy numerous times, this pizza ranks among the best we've ever tasted. The crust is flawlessly crisp, the ingredients fresh and bursting with flavor, and the atmosphere reminiscent of lively Italian gatherings depicted in movies. Dining at their home felt akin to those heartwarming scenes.

The food is outstanding, the ambiance charming, and the owners, a delightful pair, exude warmth and hospitality. We, along with our children, thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

I cannot recommend Luigi's highly enough. It's worth the journey to experience it...

My date and I visited this spot last night, and today we are still rejoicing from the amazing experience.

We ordered two pizzas for variety, and both were outstanding. Having grown up in the States and trying different places around Medellin, I didnt think it could be possible - but Im telling you it’s the best pizza Ive ever had, and my date agreed.

The folks nailed the process down to a science from the dough to the ingredients (which are mostly grown on the property. You can taste the freshness and it’s still amazing when enjoying leftovers from the fridge the morning after.

The service is also uncanny, you feel like youre at home. One can tell there is so much love put into everything, that their positive vibe goes into each step of the dining experience. And yet they are so humble knowing they offer a standout product. If you ask them their story youll be amazed to hear how they’ve come to “make it” in life :)

My tip - if youre able to book a reservation make sure you plan your transportation accordingly. It’s not in the town but I promise the views to and from is an adventure...
