El Jilguero San Gerardo — Restaurant in Copey

San Gerardo de dota, Costa Rica

The village is situated near the national park Los Questales.

The park is famous for the bird questal, symbol of the Maya and actually the name of the money in Guatemala.

It seems that you can see the bird questal as much in the village than in the park but he is not easy to see ! Between 5.30 to 7am is your best chance.

We saw only the male, blue. The female is green with a shorter tail.

You can do it independent, just take a bus till the intersection, it's easier to book ahead and somebody of the hotel will pick you up at the intersection. Two spots to see birds, Myriam restaurant who feeds birds where you can see tucan,colibris ... For the quetzal one spot down the road where all the birds watching tour take their people, you can do it by yourself easily and save 25...

We stopped at this roadside restaurant on our way from San Jose to Uvita. The bathrooms were clean. Service was great and food came quick. We ordered the Beef Tacos and the bean/cheese empanadas. It was the first time I have had empanadas made out of corn flour. They were really great!! Ended up ordering another serving of them. Me encanto ése lugar! San Gerardo es una calle como quien dice sin salida . Desde que que comienza ésa calle en el kilómetro 80 hasta el final es lindo el recorrido. Vas en bajada ,hay bastantes curvas y el terreno quebrado. Es muy fresco y pintoresco! Tuvimos suerte ya que nos tocó un dia soleado y maravilloso! Me gusto mucho un lugar de ahí..."Sueños del Bosque " pagué el pase del día,con derecho almuerzo y recorridos en los senderos! Valió la pena! Deliciosa comida ! La trucha al ajillo la recomiendo! Te ofrecen jugo de manzanas cosechadas de ahí mismo. Las personas de restaurante muy amables! Excelente trato y atención! Podes llegar en bus si consigues que te vayan a recoger a la entrada de la calle(kilonetro 80...ahi donde comienza la aventura!)San Gerardo,y luego que te dejen de nuevo a la salida. Pude ver bastantes aves , eso me fascino! No pude ver los famosos quetzales pero si vi de otros ...como carpinteros,tucanets,come maiz...varios colibríes...ect. Vayan en dia soleados es bello! Por la noche hace un frío!!!! Brrr! Lleven calcetines calientes de lana y buenos...
