El Borrego Negro — Restaurant in Mogote

Fantastic restaurant. Recommended by hotel staff at the Rinconcito Lodge (THANKS HEIDI!). Big portions, great taste. I had the Pincho Kebab aka chicken skewers, 3 in all (one with grilled pineapple, one with grilled tomatoes, and one with onion and peppers.) The chicken was a mouthwatering sensation - nice a juicy with fantastic seasoning. For my sides I got Cajun fries and sautéed veggies. OMG the veggies. Never have I wanted more veggies so badly in my life! Next time, I will get a double portion of the veggies. And by next time, I mean tomorrow because I’m going back and will definitely have the 2 for 1 margaritas. My GF had the BBQ Brisket. Smoked for 12 hours! Tender, delicious. Beyond the food, the service was fantastic. Both the server and owner asked us if they can help translate the menu (we only know a little Spanish.) definitely go. Sorry for no pictures - the food was too good to wait!

I decided to eat here after reading so many positive reviews. I visited during the tourism off-season, and was a little concerned when I arrived to see they had no other customers. Don't let this deter you! The meal I was served was fresh and delicious. Definitely one of the best rib-eye steaks I have eaten in Costa Rica. Grilled to perfection, juicy and tender. And the smoked chorizo that my plate included was also spectacular! Really good food! The waitress was very attentive and I enjoyed conversing with the owner and chef, an uncle and his nephew, both originally from Germany. Great people. What fantastic food!! We had two of their burgers and I honestly think they were the best I’ve EVER had! The buns are legitimately hand made and flavorful, which is unique, and the Borrego Burger was INSANE!! House-made bacon and local lamb added on it!
