We were passing by the central park in Nicoya on our way to Samara and my wife was starving when she saw the Kabuto sign and she demanded we stop. We entered up the three stairs and were pleased by the interesting decor, from Samarai painted walls, koi fish tank and Yin and Yang lighting on the ceiling. Kabuto is authentic in that the restaurant space is very small and they make the most efficient use of it. From my observation, Kabuto's primary clients are take out and delivery but I think that is a shame given the nice decor of the restaurant, which adds to the dining experience. We had various dishes from Takoyaki to Sushi to Ramen. All the selections were well prepared, presented and had wonderful flavor. If you are from Japan, expect a reasonable facsimile that will scratch the itch for food from home. Substitutions like egg noodle for ramen noodle and missing bonito flakes may only be noticed by the keen observer. Given this is a small town in Costa Rica and not the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum in Japan, these restauranteurs deserve 5 stars. It is unlikely you can get better Japanese in this part of the world. If you need your takoyaki fix, Kabuto has what you need.

Best rolls in Costa Rica. Wonderful owner. Good value with their combo specials. Don’t think, just go and try it. Delicious and fresh!

We were passing by and we saw some prices by the door. We thought the prices were reasonable for the “combo”. We went in, the server brings the menu and we thought we were getting the deal that they were offering. We waited about an hour. Finally, the food arrives. We got 40 pieces of sushi that were so small, it was like a one-person meal. And at the end they told us that we got something else that wasn’t the combo, and we needed up paying so much for those 40 tiny little pieces of sushi. We were left hungry and...
