Well, I hate to write bad reviews and try to be fair and positive where possible, but in this case there is little to compliment other than the view, which is amazing.|We booked the Penthouse so we could have some quiet in the mornings. On arrival we were made to feel like stragglers off the street and told that the Penthouse was not where we were staying. Instead we got a reasonably large room, which was “just like the Penthouse” except that it was in the construction zone with workers banging and scraping from before 7am. The room had no closet to speak of, a fan that did not work (despite asking for it to be fixed), no fridge or mini-bar (useful in a hot climate), and no housekeeping, towel change or additional coffee for the coffee maker, no way to put suitcases off the floor (so susceptible to the bugs that crawl around these areas)’ and nowhere to sit except at the desk or on the bed (not a big deal unless you had booked the best room in the house with such expectations (and promises).|We’re told the front desk closed at 10pm and that security would be at the entry gate in the event of emergencies. OK, but when we tried to find reception at 10am it was still shut down with all the lights off. Hard to ask for help!|To be fair when we returned in the evening and asked for coffee for the next morning, a room service person brought a couple of coffees pouches.|The hotel is clearly being renovated, but that was not evident when we booked. We did not get the room we paid for. And generally the staff was surly to the point that we felt like intruders.|Breakfast, included, was excellent. The waiter was friendly and helpful. Wish he could be cloned!|I am doing a separate review on the restaurant, Fogo, which unfortunately mirrored our experience...
Read moreI recently booked a stay at Fogo Resort (also referred to as Tara Resort) in Costa Rica through Expedia and encountered several alarming issues that suggest this hotel might be a scam:||||No Working Contact Information: The hotel does not have a working phone number, website, or email. The publicly listed number (+506 2288 6362) prompts for a security code, and all other contact paths are either outdated or non-functional. There is no email address available anywhere for this hotel.||Inconsistent Naming: The hotel is listed under two different names across various platforms, which is suspicious and confusing.||Suspicious Cancellation Policy: The hotel imposes a 100% cancellation fee, which is highly unusual and concerning.||Expired Contact Links: The contact methods listed on Costa Rican travel sites are so outdated that the Captcha API has expired.||Disconnected Restaurant Phone Number: The restaurant linked to the hotel through a separate website (grupotsunami.com) also has a disconnected phone number, raising further doubts.||I booked this hotel due to urgent travel needs, but I am now deeply concerned about its legitimacy. Travelers should exercise caution, and I urge the Costa Rican tourism authorities to investigate this listing to protect others from potential fraud. --- Note for the fraudsters running this: maybe add a working number on google maps if you're really...
Read moreFogo Resort Costa Rica offers breathtaking city views from the mountains above San José, providing a serene and inspiring setting. The beautiful surroundings and the picturesque view of Escazú create a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Each dining area is thoughtfully decorated, reflecting warmth and care. The resort, formerly known as the Tara Hotel, still has its characteristic white appearance, affectionately called the 'White House' by many, which adds to its charming character. ||Reservations are recommended for dining to ensure a comfortable experience. During our visit for afternoon tea, we enjoyed delightful desserts like flan and carrot cake, which truly made us smile. The coffee and tea were especially comforting on a rainy day, and the refreshing watermelon juice lifted our spirits. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy afternoon tea with a fantastic view, and I highly recommend visiting it, especially in the evenings when you can see San Jose’s...
