Coming in, I expected a lot based on the average score and the number of reviews. While I wasn’t left completely disappointed, I don’t think this place is up to standard. I wish there was a way to give fractional scores because it doesn’t deserve a 3 but also for sure doesn’t deserve a 4 in my mind.

We walked in for a family lunch and the service was good, but the ambience leaves a lot to desire. It’s not a nice modern restaurant, which is obvious, but it’s also not a rustic tavern the likes of which Istria can get you used to.

The food is similar. Tasty, but for sure nothing to write home about. We had two local pasta dishes, a beef tagliata and some sides. The fried potato had a weird after taste, not like it wasn’t fresh, just odd. However, the beef tagliata was good. The meat cooked well and very tasty. That, and the house wine Malvazija were the highlights.

It’s unfortunate, but in my book this is just another roadside restaurant. Plenty of better options around, especially...

After a year we visited Kažun tavern again and we were pleasantly surprised with great food, beautiful and pleasant ambience. Everything is so real Istrian. There is an excellent selection of Istrian, Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. The tavern has a long tradition and follows the tradition of local Istrian dishes. We opted for the fish menu. It was extremely tasty. We started with Shellfish on buzzara, black risotto with cuttlefish, black and white ravioli with prosciutto and cheese. Simply phenomenally delicious. Then we continued with a mixed fish platter (calamari, sea bass, gilthead sea bream, kadel - small shark, fried sardines, and grilled tuna steak), with a rich side dish of baked potatoes and a mixed Mediterranean salad. What to say but again phenomenal. Dessert was a great fruit cake. Pleasant evening in a pleasant atmosphere and with excellent food. The staff is professional, kind and friendly. Prices...

We entered this restaurant as a group of 8 at lunch time when only a couple of tables were taken. We asked for a large table in the bright part of the restaurant, but were sent to a dark corner, as the other tables were "reserved". Time passed until we had a chance to order, to then get told that various meals were not available anymore. When we reveiced our orders 50 minutes later, the dishes were partly too salty, partly heated up in the microwave and partly fine but ordinary and not corresponding the prizes around 20€ each plate. Our older group members had a hard time having conversations, because of the music speakers close to the table. Our waiter was polite, but overall it wasn't a good experience. Maybe it had something to do with us speaking Italian, but for a fact none of the nice tables in the bright part were claimed by anyone as long as we stayed in the place... We'd rather...
