First thing to know before booking or going to this Tavern (taverna) is this: COME HUNGRY!
And yes, it's worth the taxi drive from Larnaca center (15eur).
The "main event" here is the Mezze option, which is a taste of the best dishes on the menu (or the most traditional at least), served in small portions: starters and salads, meat and dessert.
PRICE: It is 20 Eur per person with a min of 2 people, but it is quite a lot for 2! Choose this option if you are 3 people (and even 4 if you don't eat much. Worst case, order something extra but trust me - you'll be full!).
What's included in the Mezze (some dishes come to the table as you eat because there is no room for everything at once!).
Verity of salads: vegetable salad with feta cheese, beet root (excellent!) 2 types of Olives, feta and pepper spread (i liked it, my friends didn't), sour yogurt (excellent), tahini sauce (excellent), butter, capers (don't eat the vine, It has spikes! Eat just the leaves and the capers), fried zucchini with feta, slices of toasted bread, cooked mushrooms.
Mixed meat: Kebab (amazing!), Pork brain (first tike I ate it, tastes like liver pate' but softer - it was just "OK" for us!), pork chops in wine, lamb chops, pork and beef souvlaki (as always in cyprus, a bit dry) pork and beef sausage, beef liver.
Dessert: Baklava and pricky pear
I'm writing this review the day after our dinner and I'm still full!
SERVICE: All the staff are actually the sons of the owner (who walks around the tables to make sure everything is ok). They were very friendly and nice although a bit slow at times. Come here knowing the pace is more easygoing and don't rush it. We were there for 2 hours.
They also have live music during the weekend which is 2eur extra per person.
BOTTOM LINE: one of the best restaurants and food we've had in Larnaca! Definitely add it to...
Read moreWow. One of the best meals we’ve ever eaten in Cyprus (coming from a British Cypriot). Kazani is an old traditional Cypriot home that has been converted into a family run restaurant-taverna in the village of Aradippou, not far from Larnakas. We were blown away by the service of our waitress (who was also the daughter of the owner) and by the quality of the fresh homemade food prepared by her brother. She gave us some brain teaser game-puzzles to complete while we were finishing our drinks and chatting — hilarious watching the table next to us try to figure them out after us. Felt very homely and chill. If you’re staying nearby this place is not worth missing out on. We noticed a good amount of locals (a universally good sign) but also many tourists which made us feel very proud that they experienced true Cypriot food and hospitality. The owner is very visible and regularly walked around the restaurant to check on his guests. He even invited us for a coffee on his veranda back at his home. 10/10 recommend. We were 4 people and ordered meat mezze for 3, we even managed to take some home with us. The fact you can look around upstairs and get a snapshot of Cyprus life in the days of old is a really nice touch. Also my KEO beer was the coldest I’ve ever had in this country - they have a special beer fridge was just sublime. Sitting outside is definitely preferable on a hot summers evening and we were told it’s busy most days, so you must call to book.. If they’re full ask to go on their cancellation list which is how we managed to get a last minute table (on a...
Read moreGroup of four: we decided to skip the mezzas and order all the meat dishes which included lamb chops, steak (cooked medium), pork ribs, chicken and pork souvlaki. I sampled all. I liked all except the pork souvlaki but my favorite were the pork ribs. My guests, on the other hand, preferred the lamb chops and the steak. Each plate came with French fries, which were delicious also. Absolutely everything was consumed except for bone and a small amount of gristle. All the meat was tender. When we go again, we shall order multiple portions of the lamb chops, steak and pork ribs. A dessert of water melon and baklava was served. I did not eat the watermelon but I ate 3 out of the 4 pieces of baklava, which was moist as it was saturated with rose water. I drank two large Keo beers each 650ml. We dined alfresco late at 1030pm on June 27, 2024, a Thursday night, and came without a reservation after a 6km drive from Larnaka center. We were elated to find a table in the corner as removed as possible from any smokers. Space for outdoor dining, however, is somewhat cramped. Friendly, efficient waiters who speak English will serve you. It is worth the trip from the city center but use your GPS if you...
