A Hidden Thai Gem in Cyprus – A Must-Visit!
During our 10-day holiday in Cyprus this July, my husband, our two children, and I found ourselves returning to Wok and Oven Thai not once, but four times – and even grabbed a takeaway on our way to the airport! It’s genuinely the best Thai food I’ve had to date, far surpassing anything we’ve tried back home in the South of the UK (even restaurants in Phuket, Thailand).
Run by the warm and welcoming Katherine (originally from Chiang Mai, Thailand) and her three children, this family-owned gem offers not just incredible food, but a heartfelt dining experience. Georgia, Katherine’s daughter, was especially lovely – always smiling and doing her best to accommodate us, even squeezing us in for the much-recommended Thai-style BBQ/hotpot, which requires advance booking.
A few tips for fellow travellers: Make sure to call and book as soon as you arrive in Cyprus – the 8pm dinner slots are often booked out weeks ahead, but there’s usually more flexibility between 6-8pm.
The menu is thoughtful and seasonal: one page of four rotating dishes, plus a main menu featuring all the Thai classics. Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable (especially compared to Thai restaurants back in the UK), and the quality is far beyond what you’d find at chains like Giggling Squid. The Thai-style BBQ isn’t listed on the menu, so be sure to request it when booking.
One of the most charming aspects of the restaurant is their vegetable plot right across the road. They pick fresh green papayas for the Green Papaya Salad – the freshness really shines through! A word of caution though: if you’re not used to intense heat, go for “mild.” I made the mistake of trying “Thai Spicy,” and despite being a regular Chinese hotpot eater, I had to admit defeat.
Other standout dishes for us included the Nam Tok – a perfect, zesty summer dish – and their rich, aromatic curries. While there was only one dessert on the menu during our visits, the Banana Fritters served with coconut or mango ice cream were an instant hit with our kids (and the adults too!).
A huge thank you to Katherine, Georgia, and the entire team – Daniel, Dimitus, Odysseas, Mike, and Aimilios – for making our dining experiences truly special. We’re already dreaming of...

What truly elevates this restaurant, however, is the exceptional service. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to ensure you have a great experience. Read moreWe had high expectations for this Thai restaurant having booked our table a month and a half in advance. Unfortunately the evening turned out to be quite a disappointment largely due to the unprofessional and downright rude behavior of our waitress. Upon arrival despite our long-standing reservation we were denied a table in the air-conditioned area and were instead seated outside in the open area. We decided to make the best of it and ordered drinks. However partway through enjoying them the waitress abruptly came over and forced us to move inside saying she had “made a mistake.” The entire interaction felt unnecessarily pushy and poorly handled. The food itself was mediocre at best nothing to justify the hype surrounding this place. The décor was bland and forgettable adding nothing to the dining experience. On the plus side prices were reasonable but that alone doesn’t make up for the poor service and underwhelming meal. Overall it’s not somewhere I would recommend...
