First time visited Lofou village with 2 other friends and we stayed there 2 nights. We were walking around first night looking for a place to eat. We saw this place and we thought to ask for a table. We saw a table for 4 with only 2 chairs and the people were leaving. We asked a passing waiter if we could sit there and he replied rudely" if you are interested only for coffee don't bother ", let me mention here it was 9:15 in the evening. Who goes for coffee that time? We were all stunned by the unwelcome remark.. But we thought to give it another try. We saw another big company of 6 leaving that time, so I dared to approach the rude waiter again to make another try. I pointed at the table that was emptying and asked nicely if we could sit there for "Dinner" I made sure I pointed dinner so we wouldn't be rejected again. He looks at me with a desperate look and he goes "but we have to clean the table" which for me was obviously the next step to do, therefore I keep looking at him waiting for him to say "please sit if you want to wait a bit" , and he continues " I said we have to clean the table" therefore I replied OK what's gonna happen? Meaning are you gonna clean it or not? Should we sit? Wait? Or what? And he replied in the most vulgar, rude manner...? This is not a way to replied to me madam. I went to explain what I mean and he continues... "don't try to save it and he walked away turning his back to all 4 of us. OMG.. I had never in my life experienced such a rude, vulgar, disgusted behavior of somebody in the restaurant area. It was obvious that they did not want any more business and we were surely pointed to the exit twice. It would have been more decent and easier to simply tell us we are overbooked or something. This rude waiter manager to destroy my demeanor for a while thinking if I did anything wrong. But surely we were not the rude ones. We were just looking for a place to eat. Neatless to say we left, we would definitely never go their again, neither recommend this place to anyone we know or asks for our experience because no matter how good your platters are if your people behavior is like that surely you don't feel welcome. We left and we went and sat at a small lounge bar at the entrance of the village called AgroVino. We were treated with excitement, served food and beer we happily paid €110 bill and we loved it so much we visited the next day getting our lunch and local beers again. Thank you for making us discover the beautiful and welcoming site of the beautiful...
Read moreTaverna Kamares is a must visit place at least once in your lifetime and an ought to go place for any tourist that wants to try traditional Greek and Cypriot "mezedes"!
Food: The food is high quality. There are so many unique options to chose from for a main dish and I highly recommend you chose "mezedes/meze" because you get to try almost every food available in the catalogue. The portions are HUGE! We order mezedes for two persons and we took away the remaining food and we ate again the next day. The food was delicious even at the next day which means that what we got served was fresh and cook on spot (and not precooked, nor prepared from the previous day). The starters and the deserts are ALL HOMEMADE, even tahini, tzatziki and so much more. I highly recommend you try them all. Especially avocado with yogurt! So delicious 🤤😋
Price: You get what you pay and you pay what you get. But this time around you get more than you pay. Top notch quality mezedes for €21.50 for one person!! With free buffet for the starters and free buffet for the desert and thirteen main dishes at the size of 3/4 of a standard portion! That's what we consumers call as a quality deal. You get high quality with decent quantity with an all you can buffet for the starters and the deserts.
Staff: The staff is really friendly, kind and direct with their communication. The owners Dimitra and her father are really polite and modest people. Basically all of the staff that we met there are honest and gentle persons and they deserve the best of the best for their professional approach. I could be friends with every single one of them. Great people!!
Atmosphere: The place is amazing. The atmosphere is cozy and the style is reminiscent of folklore Cypriot houses of the early 90s! Everything is traditional and the music of old Greek songs make the place feel like you your great-grandmother's house. We sat outdoors and we didn't feel cold at all because their where gas heaters outside.
Location: Right in the heart of Lofou's main Street which is already a stunning place from its own. Make sure you park a little far from the main street for your own convenience and to enjoy walking the whole district before you go the tavern at the end.
PS: During the Xmas holidays the whole street is shining from the Christmas lights and decorated appropriately making the whole experience an extra vibe. Make sure you dress appropriately according to...
Read moreThe food was delicious and portions are very generous! The service was attentive and friendly, we also enjoyed both meze dinner and coffee. There was also plenty of cake! The place is with traditional interior design , in the centre of the historic village. The only note on the service that can be improved: -people were allowed to smoke INSIDE. This ruined it for me, smoking should be allowed outside and not indoors. It was unpleasant for non smokers, not to mention the health hazard it is. we ordered 1 type of beer (500ML of IPA), and we got a different one instead (300ML Weiss)- attention to detail would help here. I felt bad the "wrong" beer was already opened so I took it, but the waiter did not even react when we told him he brought the wrong beer. He simply ignored the request.
Although not directly related to the service , I couldn't ignore the many stray cats around the tavern. Most of them are in terrible condition - skeletons, sick (half blind, sick kittens with severe cat flu). There was no food, not even 1 single water bowl for them! We were hearing the poor animals screaming for food! Given its a tavern where plenty of food is wasted and many people are eating , I find it disgusting cats are treated in this barbaric way. The owner should really consider how his staff is treating animals. Its bad image for the tavern, and for the village. I, as a tourist, am horrified seeing this in 21 century. And I'm not the only animal lover going there and leaving appaled. I'll make sure to spread the word to everyone who is planning to visit Lofou or Cyprus. This is part of the...
