Yialos Tavern By the Sea — Restaurant in Peyia

We had a booking for 6 yesterday. While we have always enjoyed the food and views here and been here many times, 2 of our group including me are now suffering food poisoning. I write this feeling extremely ill today. I understand Sunday was very busy, but hygiene cannot slip. No one wants to feel how I and my father feel today.

Only my father and me had the orange cake. No one else in our party did. We bumped into some other diners - and they also reported some mild symptoms and loss of appetite. I would suspect the cake and not convinced at all that it was a viral infection as we have not been close to the general public this week and only with close family visiting.

At Yialos have always had consistently good meals here for the last 10 years. Lovely sea view in shade or sun. Service is good and prices very good value. The Sea bream is always excellent. On Sundays they have souvla (traditional BBQ). All meals had dips and bread and tasty side orders included. Drinks prices are good too. Share a large Keo or Carlsberg (633cl) with two glasses or try the country wine by the small or large carafe. The area has flat walks to the north. It is about 1km to Oniros café by the shipwreck (Tapas and posh coffee) and 2 km to Sea Caves Tavern which also has Sunday souvla and a traditional but tasty menu otherwise. We were looking for a nice place to eat traditional Cypriot mezedes by the sea. Yiallos tavern was on our way so we gave it a go. The staff was very polite and the location amazing (especially during the sunset) however, the food quality was awful. We order meat mezedes and almost nothing was worth the €22/person price tag (which is on the high side of the price range around the whole island). Almost all the meat had a very bad taste giving the impression that it was low quality and frozen for a long time. The variety of food was not the "usual" plates but they could get away with it if they did not...
