We were staying about 10 minutes from Simou village and had O Tremythos Taverna suggested to us by the Airbnb owner. We drove up beside an old church, parked and walked into a small, quiet square. As we approached there was a couple sitting at one of the tables (clearly other tourists) and as we hesitated trying to make sure we were at the right place, they turned to us and said “we highly recommend”.
The taverna itself is magical and we sat down to a warm welcome from the owner Maria, and immediately ordered various things from the menu. The food Maria cooks is nothing short of exceptional and there is clearly a lot of love added. Even the smaller details of the dinner such as the salad, dips, chips and pitta bread were not overlooked and tasted just as amazing as the main meal (try the lamb chops and pork souvlakia).
It is a real family-run business and has a warm, homely feel. We don’t usually do this but we went back again on our second night as it was that good. It was so reasonably priced that we had to second guess the amount when she first told us!
We’ll be dreaming of her food until we get the chance to return again! Fresh, authentic and delicious...
Read moreWhat a gem! What a fantastic experience. I regularly visit the area as we have a weekender nearby. I can’t believe I didn’t discover this place earlier! It ticks all the boxes. Charming town square, friendly locals, shady trees (rare in Cyprus!), excellent food, terrific old school village Cypriot hospitality, stone built taverna and with friends or family, it’s a winner all round. Stella who runs the taverna with her husband is super wonderful. She cooked each of our meals fresh, literally proving to us that slow food is the best food. We ate, drank and enjoyed every moment. Best afelia, koupepia, fries, keftedes ever. Can’t wait to return. We went during the day in the peak of summer and it was fine, but at night I am sure the vibe will be even more authentic and lovely. Whilst waiting for your food you can have a quick explore around the square and church, Ancient olive trees and humble stone built homes. If you like, Stella also rents a studio next to the taverna. I recommend it for...
Read moreI came here a few days ago and the food was fresh, homemade with excellent atmosphere. The women who looks after the place also cooks the dishes. This place isnt like any normal taverna. I would say this place is worth visiting if you happen to be in the area. 4.9 stars on google reviews is pretty much spot on. We came in summer and most seating were outdoors, the air out here was really fresh and very quiet. You can a look inside the indoor seating area and its like a mini museum. We ended up staying until the place closed. Its a small little Gem in Simou with a giant mastic tree thats over 1000 years old. Its roots go deep under the ground within the village and takes its water from the wells and streams. The local church is right behind. If you feel to have a wander around the town you will realise all the houses are made of stone. This area has been...
