Of our lovely recent holidays in Denmark, the visit to the Café Pitstop in the small town of Idestrup was one of the greatest experiences we had in this country. First off, we don't think we ever met any restaurant owners nicer than Tea and Mads. With their friendliness and kindness, which go way beyond professional courtesy, they really make this place shine and make you feel at home.
And really, from the beautifully renovated building, their cute poodle mix Ralphie Rainbow, who will greet you at the door, to the best burgers you can hope to taste: What's not to like about the Café Pitstop? Everything here is made with passion, which you can already tell by the way Mads explains the secrets and storys behind each burger. He used to travel the world for years and picked up influences and recipes in every restaurants he worked at in different continents and countries.
With this as a fascinating and diversified foundation, he creates his own mouth-watering burgers – all made of fresh and local meat and vegetables. Also, you should treat yourself to the locally produced apple juice or the excellent beer. And then, there are Tea's fabulous desserts like the lemon tart we enjoyed a lot. As the name says, the place is also known for Tea's cakes. We've read rave reviews on her cheese cake, for instance.
Another thing worth mentioning, too: Currently, the Café Pitstop is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Every Wednesday, there's a special thing going on here: You won't have the burger menu to choose from then. However, instead you will be treated to an ever-changing, but always excellent dish, that Mads offers to a special price. On these days, many local people will visit the restaurant, it's a kind of community thing, where the town's people get together and Mads and Tea express their love and respect for them, since they feel very much a part of their community.
I could go on singing the praise of the Café Pitstop forever, but I won't. After all, you have to come here, see it all by yourself and spend an evening you are not likely to forget. The only thing we regret is simply, that we don't we live closer to Denmark and Idestrup, because we would surely make this place our...
Read moreWe weer very excited to try this restaurant. We've got good recommendations, but or was a hoax. We drove to Idestrup and hot there at 14H when it opens. There was a post-it on the door that the restaurant would open at 17H... We left a little dissapointed. Bought some bread to have something to eat as lunch and went back to the campsite. My wife really wanted to dry the restaurant, so in the afternoon, stond 17:30H we went back, with a friend of ours, together with our two children. |When we came in and after waiting 5 minutes, we went over to the counter to ask of we could sit down anywhere. The lady behind the counter told us that meals on wednesday were only sold on pre-ordering, and that all the food was gone/sold out. There is no mentoin of this anywere on their website! @#$£ A bloody shame is still a understatement as to how I wanted to express myself... :-( :-( We went somewhere else to eat and will never...
