Let's go, this one will be a long review. Grab popcorn and get comfortable. My friend who is Egyptian recommended this place. He said there is a restaurant called Sobhy Kaber, very good and always packed. So I'm thinking wow, their service and their food must be beyond the human realm 😂. We arrived at night, i would say around 7-7:30pm. When we entered the place was packed. I follow my Egyptian friend and him and i are looking for an empty table, until my friend says lets sit near the fountain. So we walk there and as soon as we are about to place our butts on the chair, one of the waiters yell at us, Hey! That place is closed! We are like, we need a table then. He says, as you can see its packed and there is a wait time for a table. So I said to my friend, thats cool, i see some empty chairs there, lets go and wait there. So we sit and wait. 10 minutes passes and no tables are available, we were about to leave. That's when a man with plain clothing says do you guys need a table, we say yes we do. He says follow me. He literally takes us to the same spot we tried to sit earlier, near the fountain and says have a seat here. Then he turns around to talk with someone, as soon as we are about to sit, we get yelled at again 🤣💀 by the same guy earlier. But the guy that looked like a supervisor or manager says to him its okay. So we finally take our table and wait. We wait and wait, and not a single waiter comes for our assistance. Thats when i said " thats it" im out of here! We stand up, push our chairs into the table and leave. The moral of the story, dont be fooled by crowded places, they can give you the worst memory...
Read moreA must try restaurant, everyone should go at least once! Tip: if your are going by car, don't follow directions from parking attendants scattered around the restaurant, just park in the underground parking under the building, and for the flat LE 10 parking fee (not hourly), you get your car washed while you dine upstairs 😀. The experience is what you are paying for when dining there, not the food per se. The place is HUGE and is always bustling, with 2 floors full of edge to edge tables, and no less than 60 waiters running around with massive trays full of grilled meats, tajins full of veggies and soups, and of course salads. The main attraction is different kinds of grilled items cooked the old-school authentic Egyptian way. You can't go wrong with anything there really, as everything is cooked the same way, and doesn't change at all. You will enjoy eating there because the atmosphere is so electric and watching the staff serve those hot orders is just so satisfying! DO NOT miss the chance to order their legendary molokheya, which has its super distinctive serving style performed right at the guests' table by a molokheya chef, no less! Prices are OK overall and virtually anyone can afford to eat there. While they won't win awards for presentation or service quality, it is there unique dining experience in a truly authentic Egyptian setting that will have you coming back for more. A Must...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this restaurant while in Cairo and searching for restaurants that weren’t catered to tourists. While I could pass for Egyptian( that’s what locals thought I was), my husband very much sticks out as a Dutch heritage man. When we walked in, people looked a bit shocked because we were the only tourists. Our first time there, we went for dinner. The sweet Arabic family sitting next to us saw that we were working through the menu so they were so gracious and welcomed us to their table, let us try their food and helped us order as well. The wait staff was also amazing and so helpful.
We ordered way more than we should’ve because everything looked so good. We got the Chicken Tikka, kofta and kebab. We also had the stuffed pigeon, okra tajin and a cow organ dish(I cannot recall the name). All the entrees also come with appetizers which include spreads, salad and fresh bread. Also highly recommend the green soup!
It was such a lively and fun spot, everyone was having a good time. They were playing Arabic music and some of the wait staff was dancing and moving about.
I almost didn’t want to post this review because I didn’t want to give the secret away if the locals wanted to have a place away from tourist but it’s so so good that I feel I have to at least for the business owners to know what a fantastic establishment they have.
Thank you for welcoming us and your...
