This place is bananas! Let me preface… I’m Egyptian-American. I emmigrated from Egypt, a while back, but I aim to be as in-tune with the culture as possible. This is as authentic as I am willing to let anyone get. The molokheia is top, no doubt about it. It’s what they’re known for. Any and all forms of Kibdeh are present, and all are delicious. Essentially, the food is ridiculous. That said (expats and tourists this part is for you) it is a difficult feat to get here. It’s not impossible, but even people who live in the greater Cairo area may find it a bit challenging. Go with someone who knows the road. If you don’t know Arabic, this spot might be a bit tough to navigate. I would highly recommend it, but bring a friend that can help you along. Please, for the love of god… try to sit there if you can. It’s a part of the experience after all. The food is all clean. I wouldn’t worry about being sick unless you’re of a particularly sensitive disposition. If you are a tourist, I would likely still recommend that you avoid the salads. If you’ve heard of Montezuma’s Revenge, then you might have a slight inclination of what havoc may be caused by the Retribution of Amun Ra to the bowels of the ungirded. Best of luck. Do go. It’s quite the treat. TL;DR. Try the Molokheia, it’s to die for. It’s hard to get there, and navigate if you don’t live in the area. Best to speak Arabic. If foreign, or of a sensitive disposition...
Read moreVery overrated. I’ve tried it 10+ years ago and it was much better. Salads were not fresh at all, liver did not taste nice, just plain liver mixed with gizzards, nothing special about it at all. Sausages were overcooked and had a weak taste. Although the molokhia itself was good, the rice that came with it was terrible. The only half decent dish was Wara’et lahma that actually came hot, had a strong taste and had good quality meat. The staff’s attitude was terrible, ironically the worst was the supervisor/manager. They served us bread that he himself told us was from last night and did not want to serve us fresh bread because they would have to waste bread. Last but not least, I don’t want to mention the heartburn that lasted all night long from the oiliness...
Read moreWas told by locals it’s famous. Though I don’t eat spicy and waited a little longer than expected it was good. I need to go back again. It may look suspicious at the first glance. Street food, lots of ppl, kinda noisy but the food is good.
Chicken liver is just so soft and not sure if this was the spicy dish but I ate everything
Can’t remember what else I ordered but I ate it all. A surprise for sure, but a welcome one. Maybe I was lucky that day. Sorry I can’t give you more stars since hygiene, near the road air and sound pollution + crowd make it sketchy for foreigners but I was lucky enough to get your English menu and enjoy some tasty dishes and gigantic portions. Hope you will...
