As one of only two cafés in the island, and the only one open when we were there in mid-August, if you visit Mykines you will undoubtedly end up here killing time before the ferry back to Sørvagur and they know it. So, understandably, it's overpriced and not high quality (the coffee comes from thermos-like dispenser and it's over 5€). Also, they have to bring every single thing from Sørvagur by boat.
So I give them a low rating because they could make a bit more of an effort with the place (for instance, cleaning up after customers), and also avoid serving coffee in disposable cups. Considering that they have to take all their trash back to Sørvagur by boat, and that as I said every customer goes there to spend lengthy amounts of time, it absolutely makes no sense to serve anything in disposable cups instead of ceramic out of pure laziness. They should care a bit more about the environment, particularly as that's the reason tourists come to the Faroes in the...
Read moreOur best experience on the faroer islands :-D We stayed over night on a very idyllic camp site with a view over the village. The toilets and shower are clean and warm and great after a bath in the river. If you arrive in the evening, you have the puffin collony mostly for yourself and the sunset from the top of the cliff is just beautiful :-D The ferry in the evening to Mykines and in the morning back is mostly empty and can be booked spontaneous. Katrina, the owner of the caffee and also responsible for camping and hiking fee, is really nice, once you get to know her! Guests that stay overnight will get a discount on the hiking fee and only pay 250DKK instead of 400. Camping is 150 per person. The fish soup and cake in the caffee is really good as well. We got stuck for one additional day, due to high waves however, do plan...
Read moreHost only cared about charging us, she didnt even tell us where the camping was or what other facilities were included. She tried to charge us a "hiking fee" making it sound like it is mandatory, but it's not. The "camping" itself is only a small uneven grass area, with lots of sheep and bird feces everywhere. Showers are not included. There is no common area or facility of any kind included in this. The host mentioned that her cafe would be open until 22, but when we went there at 20 she had already closed. We loved Mykines despite the camping experience. We had amazing experiences in other campings on the Faroes for much less than what what this...
