Date: 13/07/2025 Cuisine: Variety Price Range: $$ - $$$ Items ordered: BBQ pizza and BBQ plater and Pink Lemonade Time taken: 20 to 30 mins (the place felt practically empty, there were maybe one or two more tables occupied after my friend and I arrived)
Review Breakdown (Out of 5)
Food: 2.7/5
Many of the menu items we initially wanted were unavailable, which was disappointing. We later decided on the BBQ pizza, BBQ platter, Glazed chicken (which was forgotten) and a jug of pink lemonade.
Pink Lemonade: Priced at $20 for around a 1L jug, which felt steep. The taste was pleasant, lightly fizzy with a subtle sweetness but not exceptional enough to justify the cost.
BBQ Pizza: Tasted good but fairly standard, nothing that stood out. I’ve had better elsewhere, so it didn’t leave a strong impression.
BBQ Platter: A mixed experience, the lamb chops were nicely cooked and well-marinated, but the grilled chicken was dry. The mashed potatoes were bland and lacked seasoning.
Service: 2/5
Service left much to be desired. While we were initially rushed when placing our order, the server did allow us extra time upon request. However, her tone during the interaction felt dismissive particularly when I asked whether alcohol could be removed from a cocktail to make a mocktail. Her response was unnecessarily curt. Additionally, orders were taken without any notes, which resulted in one item being forgotten. We only realized halfway through our meal, so we didn’t bother mentioning it. A simple notepad could have prevented this oversight.
Ambience: Inside 2/5 | Outside 3.5/5
The indoor dining area was quite basic, plain tables and chairs, with little to no atmosphere. The outdoor seating, on the other hand, was more enjoyable. With the cool weather and string lights, it had a pleasant vibe, but still lacked any standout features or memorable design elements.
Authenticity: 1/5
The dining experience didn’t feel particularly authentic or unique. The menu spans multiple cuisines but lacks a cohesive identity. Nothing in the service, setting, or food presentation reflected a specific culture or concept. It just felt like a generic plain restaurant.
Cleanliness: 4.5/5
Cleanliness was a strong point. The environment was tidy and well-maintained throughout our visit.
Overall Rating: 2.6/5
While The Hideout has potential, our experience felt underwhelming. At a total cost of $120 for just three items, we expected a more polished and enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, the limited menu availability, average food, and inconsistent service fell short. A few improvements in attentiveness, consistency, and ambiance could go a long way in elevating...
Read moreWe went there an hour away from closing time and they still took our orders, for that I give them a solid 5/5. Place was empty when we walked in aside from a guy enjoying a few at the bar. Chill atmosphere 5/5. Music could do with some changes, we listened to AKON the whole time, man's good but the remixes was definitely losing the plot 3/5 on Playlist!
We ordered the Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka, and Chicken Sweet Corn Soup, ending the meal with a Ginger Masala Chai. It was a flavourful experience overall, with a few areas that could use some fine-tuning.
The Butter Chicken was rich, creamy, and full of flavour, exactly what you’d hope for in a classic curry. The Garlic Naan paired beautifully with it: warm, soft, and brushed with just the right amount of butter.
The Chicken Tikka came out smoky, tender, and well-marinated, making it one of the highlights of the meal. It was served with fries and salad, though the fries could use some work: they were a bit plain and lacked the crispness to complement the rest of the dish.
The Chicken Sweet Corn Soup unfortunately missed the mark for me. It had way too much black pepper, making it unexpectedly spicy for a starter that’s usually meant to be light and soothing!!
We ended with a Ginger Masala Chai, which had a nice flavour but didn’t quite deliver the strong, spiced kick you’d expect from a good masala tea (forgot to take a pic)
Overall, The Hideout serves up delicious mains with authentic flavours and generous portions. A few small tweaks, especially to the starters and sides, and this place could easily become a go-to spot for comforting...
Read moreFor a place that was widely recommended, today's (11/02/24) service was absolutely minimal to none. The time it took for the entree's to come out,we just wanted the Main meal and that was another wait and a bit. No attention to detail whatsoever,a steak was ordered for well done but came out medium rare, Seafood platter that advertises a whole lobster was on the menu but told..it will be half a lobster(but a big half it will be) is the same price as having a a platter with a full lobster..go figure. Pancakes, can either lose the diabetes worth of syrup or atleast let the customer decide how much goes on top. The chilli chicken had more batter then chicken. For the view you get to witness, that is probably the only thing going for Hideout. Maybe will go again and see what...
