Visited for dinner on the last night of my Fijian holiday and wow, what a way to end the trip on a high!
Navo is the InterContinental's signature restaurant and offers a very exclusive experience compared to the other dining venues at the resort, with the second evening sitting being adults only. I was warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to a table with a prime view out towards the lagoon and Navo Island.
The menu is extensive featuring both western favourites and locally inspired dishes, so diners can go with their preferences or choose to mix and match. I tried to go with the local dishes.
The meal began with some complimentary bread with my choice of accompanying sea salt, before I moved onto my starter, the lobster kokoda. I had tried a mahi mahi kokoda earlier in the trip and this was certainly a leap above it in taste, quality and presentation!
For the main course I couldn't go past the local lobster with bongo chilli and garlic. A variety of sizes were available ranging from 400g up to 1.3kg, I went with the 1kg lobster which was a good size for a big appetite! I added the okra and coconut rice as sides, both were excellent choices and paired well with the lobster.
For dessert I ordered the coconut purini cake, a delicious finale to the meal.
The drinks menu is extensive with something to suit everyone. In addition to sparkling water I also ordered a Bula Paloma mocktail, which turned out to be the best drink I had all trip!
Service from start to finish was friendly, attentive and prompt. A highlight had to be the staff coming together in song at various points during the evening.
Compared to the other dining venues at the InterContinental, Navo is pricey, but as a highlight meal it is absolutely worth it. Be sure to include a dinner at Navo on...
Read moreWe eagerly looked forward to our dinner here for several days. It was meant to be the highlight of our vacation. Based on the beautiful pictures online, fabulous menu, and the dress code, we had five star expectations. Sadly, our experience fell far short.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a knowledgeable hostess, who gave us an overview of the restaurant and brought us to our table. Next, we met a gentleman who came to take our drink order. We ordered a couple of drinks and asked for tapwater. He arrived with a bottle of sparkling water, which we rejected. He came back a few minutes later with the same bottle of water, confused. So we went with the up charge and got bottled water. After it was consumed, It took more than an hour to get our glasses replenished with tapwater.
In the meantime, our waitress arrived, introduced herself, and took our dinner order. That was the last time we ever saw her.
The appetizers we ordered were delicious but very very small. We ordered several to share and it really wasn’t possible.
It was more than an hour before our entrées arrived. We don’t know what happened, but we watched as others who arrived after us were served their dinner. In the meantime, nobody checked in, and we sat and waited. Eventually, we were trying to flag down anyone passing by and the hostess stopped. She checked on our dinner and soon after, it arrived.
Most of my family wanted to skip the dessert because we had already been at the table close to two hours. But the hostess, who came back in lieu of our absentee waitress, assured us it would be quick. It was another 15 minutes but delicious.
If you are on Fiji time and happy to spend the entire evening at dinner, go for it. But if you’re looking for five star service,...
Read moreUpon arrival we were able to make breakfast on the outside deck at Navo and it was a great buffet. However ever when we returned for dinner we were refused seating because the lady at the front desk said we were under dressed and had on sandals? Well as we stood in the entrance discussing the problem with her we noticed every person we encountered in the restaurant was also wearing flip flops and had unruly children running around the restaurant with no parents in site. The sign on the front entrance says adults only after 7:30pm but I guess that doesn't apply to some guests just us. I have been insulted before but never over my dress code because my wife and myself always dress to impress and were much more appropriately dressed than half the people in the restaurant. The only positive thing I can say about the Navo is the service was excellent by our friend and waiter Macu during the breakfast buffet only. He really made every effort to make sure we were taken care of for two days and that is something we will remember. But as far as the hostess, I have spoken to two different managers at the Intercontinental about this occurrence but have yet to found out the ladies name at the front door so that the IHG group can be made aware that they have inadequate staff that are making a bad impression on some really sincere and hard working...
