Disappointing Experience at Charlie’s Pizzeria, Åland
We were visiting Åland with family and friends and came across Charlie’s Pizzeria, which looked inviting at first glance. Unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant.
We were a group of adults and kids, and after deciding on our orders (pizza, pasta, and kebab rolls), we rang the bell at the counter. The person at the counter(maybe the owner..?) -took a long time to come out. We stayed patient and didn’t complain, even though the kids were quite hungry. We assumed the kitchen maybe understaffed.
However, when he did appear, he began rushing us to order, displaying clear impatience. Despite us being ready with our choices, he pushed us to speak faster and acted rudely throughout the interaction. One of our friends, who speaks Swedish, tried to communicate quickly and clearly, but his behavior remained unwelcoming.
When the food arrived, we were surprised to find the pizzas unsliced and no plates provided. The salad plates at the self-service counter were already used up. We politely asked for a few extra plates, and were met with rudeness again. The owner harshly told us that we should have requested plates while ordering - which we had no idea was a requirement. He even remarked that the salad plates were gone "because we used them all up”🙄 - which felt unfair and accusatory, especially since only 6 of us had taken them.
Despite having paid in full, we felt like we were being treated as a burden rather than valued customers. The atmosphere became awkward and uncomfortable, especially for the kids, and we felt embarrassed in front of others in the restaurant.
As for the food: the pizza was fresh and tasted good, but the kebab rolls had a distinctly bitter, stale taste. When we politely mentioned this, we were told the bitterness was "because it’s lamb meat." Being familiar with lamb dishes, we know it shouldn’t taste like that. What shocked us most was when the owner took a bite from one of our rolls and brayed like a goat (was it done to mock us?) We were honestly speechless at that level of disrespect.
We understand restaurants can have busy or stressful moments, and we did our best to be patient and courteous throughout. Sadly, what we received in return was rude, dismissive, and, at times, downright disrespectful behavior.
While we noticed some positive reviews about the owner’s friendliness, our experience was quite the opposite and we cannot help but wonder if it was personal or discriminatory in some way. This unfortunate episode left a sour note on what was otherwise a lovely trip to Åland.
We hope this feedback is taken constructively—every guest deserves to be treated with basic courtesy...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Charlie's Pizza in Godby and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The owner was extremely welcoming and friendly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home.
The food was also outstanding. The pizzas were freshly made with high-quality ingredients, resulting in a delicious and satisfying meal. The toppings were generous, and the crust was perfectly crispy and chewy, making each bite a delightful experience.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices at Charlie's Pizza. Despite the high quality of the food, the prices were quite reasonable and offered great value for money.
Overall, my experience at Charlie's Pizza was exceptional. The great owner and staff, combined with the delicious food and reasonable prices, make it a must-visit restaurant. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch or a casual dinner, Charlie's Pizza is definitely worth...
Read moreWe had a very bad experience with this place. The kebab we ordered had some foul smell and odd taste. The customer service was so poor. We visited with kids and when extra plates were asked for serving pizza to kids the guy was so rude and asked us to order extra plates with food order (which we have never heard of before). The food was already served late and the rude and discriminating behaviour from the staff here to a group with kids was...
