We visited Soltuna Restaurang & Café as a family — myself, my wife, and my mother. At first, we parked in the lower parking area, not realizing that there’s a more convenient parking spot directly next to the restaurant. That upper area was especially helpful since it has a ramp, and my mother uses a rollator, so the access was comfortable for her.
When we arrived, we wanted to sit by the panoramic windows overlooking the mini-golf area and the entrance to the hiking trails. Unfortunately, all the window tables were dirty, with dishes left on some of them. It seemed like cleaning was slow, maybe due to peak time. We picked one of those tables and asked to have the tablecloth changed, which the staff kindly did.
One of the main drawbacks was the complete lack of printed menus. There are none at all. All dishes are listed on chalkboards in the first hall, and to place your order, you need to walk back to the entrance and order at the counter. There’s no table service, which is inconvenient if you’ve already settled in the back room.
There was also no background music in the restaurant. Even though there were speakers in the ceiling, it was completely silent. Some soft music would make the place much more welcoming and pleasant.
In the toilets, another issue: there are no hooks inside the cabins. So if you have a bag or personal items, there’s nowhere to hang them. There is a coat rack outside the bathroom area, but that’s not ideal for valuables or handbags.
Additionally, none of the dishes include any weight or calorie information, which is very important nowadays. We ordered a burger with fries and sauces — it was tasty, but based on rough estimates, just that one meal was around 1200–1400 kcal. And this was probably the lightest item on the menu. For people who care about nutrition or portion sizes, this lack of information is a serious downside.
That said, I must highlight the excellent attitude of the staff. When our phone ran out of battery, they loaned us an iPhone charger. They also gave us takeaway containers so we could pack up our food. Everything was handled quickly, politely, and with care.
There are lots of interesting things nearby: a viewing tower, vintage cars, and two hiking routes. One is short and kid-friendly, with 28 story signs and playful themes. The second is longer and more challenging — about 2.5–3 hours, going through forests, rocks, caves, and leading to a lake. The way back is especially steep, so be sure to plan...
Read moreWe had dinner here with my extended family, on the recommendation of my mother-in-law, who always visits this place whenever she’s in Åland 🇦🇽.
We ordered a two-course meal (main and dessert), and the food was truly delicious. The only downside was the wait — it took around 30 to 40 minutes before we were served. Still, the quality of the food made up for it.
The main dishes were great, and the desserts were especially tasty. We’ll definitely come back on our next...
Read moreA staple in our visits to Åland. The classic ’burger with fries’ from the café is our go to option even if the fries tend to be a tad heavy on the salt. Their take on the Åland version of pancake is IMO amongst the best available and in itself worth a visit. Stunning views and a beautiful nature path next by make this a good destination even for return visits. The restaurant side offers more upscale service and menu, yet to be...
