Heila Lähiruokatori — Restaurant in Lahti sub-region

This used to be good, but food quality has gone down. It is generally known that restaurant food taste is made with fat and salt, but the current approach is overkill. When asked, meatballs are made from 30% fat pork/beef mixture. Cooked potatoes were swimming in oil. One of the main courses was smoked pork, half of that was fat that I just had to cut away. Salad ingredients were cheap. Salty sausage in salad? I have seen that last time maybe in the 80's. No tomatoes, maybe they are too expensive. Will go to the nearby...

Finland is well serviced with grocery chains, but this store knocks any grocery store "Out" of the park. From a fresh meat counter to fresh bread, buns and greens, vegetables and fruit, jams chutneys and a drinks section any New York bar would be proud of. Or if you feel like a coffee, cinnamon roll and a meal, this place doesn't disappoint, inside and outside seating, dog friendly and toilets all under one roof, wheelchair...

The food is excellent and the portions are large. Plenty of meatballs and the salmon soup actually had plenty of large salmon bites in it.

This lovely little spot with a local food store is situated just across the ABC chain. You can leave your car to charge at ABC or bring it in front of Heila (Helen/Virta) and enjoy home-cooked like dishes with a salad buffet. The vibes are much more relaxed here.
