Orikedon Taverna — Restaurant in Turku sub-region

Arrived shortly before closing time in desperation for somewhere to eat and drink. Staff were accommodating to the situation - very nice. But little English spoken here and a menu only in Finnish so only one word would fit the bill: "kebab". "ketchup?", "no thank you" (with a shake of the head). "Beer?' got me a bottle - so now I had a drink 🙂, paid for the bill and sat down. So far so good. Food was quickly brought to the table - good service.

What was placed before me was a vast plate of something decorated with a snake of mayonnaise and some floppy fries. Food for three it seemed. I then dug into it eager to eat. Shock - it was perhaps the ghastliest kebab I'd ever tasted. Happily my beer came to the rescue. I was starving so there was no choice but to press on and eat a few mouthfuls until there was no beer left to drown the taste.

It was quite exceptional. I have never tasted anything like it before, and I hope it will never be bettered in its awfulness.

Let me start by saying. My friend who frequents this place, always mentioned that food here lasts him for two-three days. He mentioned it more than once and I never really bothered with him, thinking it was just an exaggeration. I visited, on my trip to Turku and ordered kebab and fries and my friend ordered the kebab. The portion sizes were HUGE. MASSIVE. MY jaw dropped when the plates of food came to our table. I did not expect it. As someone who eats everything on one sitting I knew IMMEDIATELY that had to carry some home. Sometimes when restaurants have one thing they’re known for, for example, large portion sizes they tend to rely on that one thing and let important things like taste slip. Best "finnish" style kebab I personally have ever eaten. The sauce was delicious and fresh, meat was good, salad tasted fresh and the bread was crispy.
