Restaurant L'Escale des Vins — Restaurant in Aix-en-Provence

Un attente insupportable! (this review is also in English after) nous sommes arrivés avec deux jeunes enfants. Il faut attendre plus d'une heure pour le menu enfant - si je n'ai pas demandée véhément il aurait été plus. Pour les adultes il y a une heure vingt d'attente, que pour 3 pieces de boeuf grillé, du salade et des pommes de terres rôti. Il y était que d'une serveuse, et peut être elle fait cuisinière aussi...si nous n'avions pas d'enfants, nous serions définitivement partis, comme les autres gens, mais après une heure d'attente, toutes les autres restaurants sont fermées donc on ne peut pas. Quand j'ai disputé avec le patron, il me dit que même les enfants ne peuvent pas passer avant son tour... Enfants de 2 et 6 ans .. Incroyable. Nous sommes arrivés à 13h et elles mangeront à 14.10.

I've never seen anything like it. We arrived at 1pm, 3 adults and 2 small kids aged 2 and 6. One waitress for the whole place and she was missing half the time. The kids food (fried chicken and plain pasta kids meal - not a vegetable in sight) took over an hour to arrive. We would have left (some people did without eating) but the kids were hungry and we didn't dare start again, eventually all the other restaurants were closed anyway and so we had no choice but to stay. After an hour I complained and we were told we had to wait our turn ; I demanded food for the kids and eventually that came, ours came 1h 20 mins after we got there. We all ordered the same - steak, salad and roast potatoes. Hardly complex. Their menu is small (only 5 main courses to choose from) and as a chef myself there's no excuse for this I would always ensure kids are served quickly and first... When I took it up with the owner he said he "agreed with me, but we had to take our turn", and then blamed the customers for all showing up at once. Frankly, if you can't serve people in a reasonable amount of time (it wasn't that busy) you should turn them away. It's not like we all showed up and were ordering complex 20 course menus.

Honestly I've no idea what they were doing in the kitchen. Perhaps eating lunch. Food and location were nowhere worth the wait. I can't believe what good reviews this place has but note many of them are from people who've only ever left one review in their whole lives...and it's 5*...

Stopped spontaneously on a June Friday at 8pm with tired hungry 16 and 12 year old American kids. It was very easy to relax and eat happily; not too chic or too crowded for a family and the owner? was caring and good natured about serving the the kids. In the end, I think it was the most successful nice meal we’ve had since becoming parents. And we travel overseas six weeks a year since they were born. Nous sommes venus le week-end dernier, attirés par ce que nous avions entendu sur le changement de propriétaire et l’ambiance guinguette. Malheureusement, l’expérience n’a pas été à la hauteur de nos attentes.

Le seul vrai point positif : l’amabilité des serveurs, souriants et disponibles malgré le contexte.

Côté bar, l’organisation semblait un peu chaotique : le barman paraissait débordé alors qu’il n’y avait quasiment personne, et le mojito manquait clairement de saveur avec un arrière goût de chaussettes… L’offre de boissons et cocktails était par ailleurs très limitée, ce qui est dommage pour un lieu qui mise justement sur l’esprit guinguette.

L’ambiance générale a aussi été gâchée par une forte odeur désagréable sur l’ensemble du site, visiblement liée à des toilettes bouchées. Et pour couronner le tout, les planches à 25€ étaient très peu garnies, ce qui laisse un goût amer.
