We used to eat here every ski holiday but it went downhill a few years ago and we stopped coming. Some friends told us that La Soucoupe was good again so we booked for lunch today (Feb 19th)
I booked at the beginnning of January and was only offered 1430 so assumed it was back to its best. Maybe better?
Lunch today was so disappointing. We sat down at 1430 and weren't offered drinks and menus until 1500 despite my asking politely, and repeatedly. The waiting staff seemed rushed off their feet and there were not enough of them. When we were offered menus, the waiter wanted to take our order 30 seconds later!
When the food finally arrived it was good - although €15 for two pieces of brocolli and some pulses (fricassee de legumes) is verging on robbery! Unfortunately the bottle of Chateau Cantemerle that I also ordered did not arrive at the table until I had almost finished my steak.
Desserts were also good but by that time we had been at the restaurant for so long that we were more concerned about missing the last lift back to Meribel.
I do not know whether anyone will be interetsed in reading this or if it is just another computer generated feedback form. What I do know is that a once fantastic restaurant is no longer and at this price point having a beautiful location is not enough. We have had lunch out, at a restaurant, everyday for the last 7 days at c€80 a head and all have been pretty good. La Soucoupe was c€110 a head and unfortunately by far our worst...
Read moreVery rude attitude from the management of the restaurant after we waited for our food for 1 and a half hours. We arrived at 14:30 got seated only at 14:50. We left at 16.10 (otherwise we wouldn't cats the last ski lift to get to hour hotel), because our main dishes were no still served. We got just hot drinks for the kids, coffee and pre prepared starter of foie gras. There was a very rude attitude from the management, with no sincere apologies, just standard .... "ohhh I am sorry, but, actually, I don't care" attitude. At least they could have apologised and don't charged us for the starters as a sign of apology and admitting their error. But of course we paid every penny :), classical French resort case, where locals have bee spoiled by foreign money. In addition this place is a pretty expensive one, where the main dish starts from around 55 EUR.
Practically, we could have spent this time just skiing and enjoying slopes instead of sitting in a place, full of smoke from big grill. All our skiing clothes has a disgusting smell of blend of smoke, grilled meet and burn wood and has to be brought to cleaning, which is en extra expense. Honestly, very bad experience. I always have liked that place, but obviously, there has been some changes there.
For the moment I do not advice...
Read moreBeautiful ambiance, superbly maintained with lovely center piece old fashioned grill. I had grilled veal kidneys with potato gratin and a side of roasted peppers in garlic and olive oil. It was all delicious but next time I’d ask for medium rare rather than rare cooked.
My husband on the other hand had a very disappointing dish of cep risotto, which was watery, and had big slices of parmigiano which made up for the cep flavour but then again, then it should have been parmigiano rizzoto rather the cep. At 36€ he found it disappointing for the lack of flavour and the dish size so he had half of my gratin to make up for the small portion size.
So I’d rate my dish 4 stars but as my hasbund says 3, so overall 3.5 but we can only select whole stars. Given the price the expectations are that the food...
