Stayed here the night before we caught our flight home from Basel Airport. We were shown the room with the 4 poster bed and opted for it at 70 Euros a night. The lady on reception spoke little English but was pleasant enough and helpful, i am presuming that she is the managers wife. although not certain. My partner wanted a bath and there was no plug available, i went to reception and the lady in question she scoured several rooms in order to find one.The enamel has come off the bath and therefore not comfortable to use. The bed side lights did not work which meant having to put the main light on in the middle of the night to get to the bathroom. Decided we would go to the restaurant which looked, ok but we were taken to the balcony. The lady in question asked what we would like for dessert to which we replied we hadn't been offered starters as yet. It took 2.5 hours to get three courses of which consisted of the starter"Salad" bowl of lettuce with dressing 1/4 of a tomato, some bacon bits, and crouton bread all served with a basket of stale bread. We decided on the pork chops which was the only item on this particular menu, and were told non left, but were offered steak instead. The steak was abysmal tough and chewy accompanied by a small amount of potatoes and sliced cucumber and chopped tomato. My partner refused to pay for hers and i asked mine to be re-cooked which was bought back with more cucumber and chopped tomatoes. The black forest Gateau arrived which i was assured was the specialty of the region, dry as anything with cream that had looked as if it had been sitting out for several days my partner went for the creme Brulee which she enjoyed but a very small portion. We had told them earlier that we wanted breakfast but after the service we received at dinner we cancelled it.,the lady said i quite understand. The manager who i presume was the person who appeared in all the pictures dotted about the place didn't acknowledge us at all especially after we complained and preferred to sit on the terrace drinking with his pals leaving the lady in question to do everything. This place is awful, so much so we checked out as early as we could and decided to sit at the Airport for the best part of 4 hours before our flight home. I would not recommend this place to anyone food is awful and no one other than one...
Read moreThey love colours on the walls of their houses in this part of the world. This hotel is painted bright red, the geraniums on the balcons are in full in bloom and bright purple so it looks well kept from the outside, And it was they only hotel we could find, on our way tho the German border. So we went for it.||The room was on the side of the road. It was bright, had a balcony and a fourposter bed almost as big as the room itself! I asked for a double, big bed. Well, that's what they gave us! Bathroom was still in the colourscheme of the 70th but functional enough.||||GLarge garden outside so enough outside space to sit and relax.||The road in front of the hotel is fairly busy and on the oposite side of the road is a gasstation. But during evening and night was quiet enough.||||Breakfast was not a really large buffet but more than the minimal French breakfast.||||We also eat at the restaurant. There were a couple of menus to chose from. Starter was tasty, mean course average and the bottle of Gewustraminer was good. The decor was as you sometimes see in traditional hotels. A lot of stuff, accumulated over the years, all stuffed in nooks and crannies. Lots of memorablia of french-german wars and a large as life statue of Bonaparte on the stairs. But the witch doll in the clock in the hall was really the...
