L'Envie Gourmande — Restaurant in Angoulême

As my husband and I are in the process of moving to France from the USA, we are having to explore and discover the best restaurants in the area. Today, we experienced a delicious lunch at L’Envie Gourmand. My starter, which was a vegan dish, was outstanding. I have found vegan food rather bland in France, but this dish was so full of flavour. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his entree; the salad dish with pork. But, for me, the highlight was the vegan risotto. I don’t know what the chef added, but it was the best I’ve ever tasted. There were so many complementary flavours. Finally, we were very surprised at the price. My husband said that the cost of the meal was almost as low as a fast food lunch at McDonalds. Four of us went for dinner on a fine Saturday evening. The service was perfect - attentive, timely and informative, without being intrusive. The owners are French,of course, but they cater well for English customers and they are happy to talk in either language - or both. The food was great and the wine selection was very good and reasonably priced. We dined on the terrace, with great views. It is 45 minutes drive from where we live so we cannot visit as often as we would otherwise. However, we look forward to our next visit and we hope the restaurant enjoys the success it deserves. We had a great lunch at this fabulous restaurant. Excellent service by a charming hostess. We had entrees of Salad Lyonaise and home made rilletes de porc. Our plats were the most beautiful burgers in a brioché bun with lots of ham and cheese sauce and a paleron of beef with really well made frites. We skipped dessert as we were bursting.
