La Toscane — Restaurant in Angoulême

My sister in law and I were taken here for a yummy lunch by family. We were served really quick and got taken to a gorgeous little courtyard outside. It was a super hot day but there was plenty of shade. We ordered some drinks an they came pretty quick. (Some wine and a couple of Heinekens). The menu had lots of choice and I struggled to make a decision on what to have. The waiter came back and took our order. My sister in laws dad had Veal in a mushroom cream sauce with some chippies, his wife had the vegetarian pizza with chips, my sister in law had gorgonzola pasta and a green salad and I had the goats cheese pizza and chips. Everything came out pretty quick and was very hot. It all looked delicious. My pizza was so so yummy. I tried a bit of the pasta and salad and they were gorgeous too. Was too stuffed to get a pudding in but everything that went by our table looked mouthwatering! I'm not sure how much the meal came to as we were treated but the meals were probably 10-15€ a head. The good: the steak, the outdoor terrace, the deserts, the coffee! The bad: It was very busy when we went, so understandably the staff was busy, even understaffed. It took twenty minutes to get a single drink, however. Had we not had special requests, maybe our experience would have been better, but we asked for ice and cold water and were kept waiting, the steak was only medium rare instead of well done. Otherwise, the steak was fabulous and the veal was very good. We spoke French with the waiter but he made it clear he could understand English so we didn't HAVE to. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food and service are excellent and everyone was very friendly. There is a lovely garden terrace out back, although we sat indoors by the window. The acoustics inside can be somewhat distracting due to low cielings, which at busy times can make it harder for your elderly family members to tune into the conversation 😁. I recommend booking ahead, since walk-in footfall often gets turned away on...
