Lovely terrace in beautiful surroundings. That’s the only positive.
Ignored and waited for good 10-15 mins before we were seen to. No bread or water either while waiting. Not even an acknowledgment or smile to say ‘noted you’re here, will be right with you.’ Basically felt invisible throughout, from beginning to end. We weren’t the only ones who experienced this; customer after customer (unless they were friends / family of the owners) went through similar ordeal.
The menu choice is really sparse; ended up just ordering the omelette. Considering the French would know how to do omelette perfectly, this was absolutely awful and gave me diarrhoea that night.
Water was given in a cracked, plastic, dirty jug. The glass I drank from was filthy and worst, it stank! Asked my mum if I could drink from hers instead. Clearly not cleaned properly. Totally unacceptable.
Then, when it came to end of meal and we were asked if we enjoyed it, I dared to be honest. The look and reaction I received for expressing in a very polite way that the meal wasn’t up to standard, making me the baddie, was awful. If I was the owner of this beautiful place and any customer wasn’t fully satisfied, I would have taken constructive criticism onboard and offered them something on the house or reduced their bill to try make up for it.
We could have easily walked out of there without paying; we were waiting around for our bill, without any information on where / how we pay this. So had enough and went to bar myself to pay. Again waited about 10 mins to pay! While I was waiting at the bar, stood in front of a pile of dirty dishes stacked up all over the bar where card machine and payment was made. Doesn’t give good impression at all. No apology for having to wait, or for awful meal, or for unclean glasses / water jug, or for bad experience / service, nothing at all. Paid €50 for this awful meal for myself and mum and this without alcoholic drinks! Total rip-off. Clearly not enough staff. Unhygienic. An ‘old’ energy, with no willingness to change and improve.
That was the last night we ate there; would rather walk 15 mins down the road to St Jorioz and have decent good value for money meal there than endure this place ever again. The main reason why people (esp tourists like ourselves) blindly come here - because it’s the closest restaurant to accommodation nearby and it’s beautiful terrace and location. If you can avoid it, just don’t go.
It’s very sad as I feel this place in these beautiful surroundings has wonderful potential if only the owners would open up their eyes, look at these issues a bit more closely and give attention to detail, you would have the perfect place to eat. How there is a star rating of 4.5 out of 5 is beyond me. People must either be blind, or have seriously low standards, or these are...
Read moreI would not recommend this place, especially to foreigners/tourists. My friends and I were really looking forward to dinner here after a long, rainy day, but our excitement quickly turned to disappointment. From the moment we walked in, we were met with judgmental stares from both the staff and other customers. The layout was uncomfortable, with diners facing directly towards the entrance, which made the whole experience feel unwelcoming.
When the waiter told us there was a 50-minute wait, we said we'd be happy to wait if we could sit near the bar and have drinks in the meantime. However, they refused, claiming they didn’t have a license to serve drinks without food. This excuse felt flimsy and made us feel like they were just looking for a reason to turn us away. I felt like this throughout my time in France and honestly wonder why anyone wound want to travel here for their "culture". It was an unpleasant experience overall, and I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreSimple, rustic restaurant with good, yet basic local dishes. We liked the Cheese Fondue Savoyarde and also the Pizza Caprieuse. The "Salade verte" is just that: only green salad leafs with mustard dressing, which we found a bit expensive at 5€.
The place was packed full on a Saturday evening and the service sufferered a lot from there being only 1 (nice, yet very stressed) waitress for the whole big restaurant (we do not know if there is normally more staff). It would have helped to use a "modern" eletronic system for calculating the bills - it did take everybody a lot of time to name the dishes they had and the lady from the kitchen adding them up with...
