Just awful. Nearly walked out. I had booked a table for two as a Christmas Eve treat. Previous years, we have had lovely experiences here - and it is one of the few restaurants open all year. What has gone wrong??? We were the only people eating until the very end of the meal when two others came in. Waiter had no idea where the wines were listed. He apologised that the red wine was cold. He spilled the wine. Served a dribble of wine to us both - in the smallest glasses. We stressed one of us had an allergy to mushrooms and checked the meal would be mushroom-free. But then we were brought mushrooms on the shared plate of meat. The waiter thought we would like the mushrooms and that it was a preference not an allergy! He didn’t seem concerned. This was not a language issue - our French is good enough and so was his English. The plate of food that came back (sans mushrooms) looked disturbingly identical but I was assured it was a fresh plate. The raw chicken and beef for us to cook was served with a few unappealing raw vegetables but there were no implements to transfer the raw chicken to the hot plate. Were we supposed to use our knife and fork? Alarm bells of basic food hygiene. The burner wasn’t working and we had to ask twice for it to be relit. We were told it was our fault initially by the manager/owner because we had put too much raw chicken on the plate to cook - it wasn’t the issue - but we were given a lecture all the same by the unfriendly manager/owner. The trio of sauces were just unpleasant. A tub of three unappealing opaque plastic bottles of mayo/ketchup/mustard was dumped on the table. No bread or water offered. €33 euros per person for tasteless chicken and beef, a few raw vegetables and a bowl of fries. Over €45 euros for an average Cote de Rhône. Awful. Never...
Read moreUpon arriving last week the place was only 10/15% full with only a few tables with people seated. It was very early in the evening and didn’t get met with anyone at the entrance of the table area. So given the emptiness and tables we sat ourselves down. As soon as as we sat” this is when what looked the owner washed out slightly odd chap came over and said reserved reserved reserved… ok fair enough but no signs on the tables how were we too know. Then aggressively ushers us up from the table to another table saying that’s reserved… real odd and rude.. so with that we literally walked a few hundred yards up the road and got some grub. It feels an odd area and reserved for the locals however when it’s not ski season.maybe we got the brunt of this chaps worn out excuses to be polite to paying customers.Drove past a little later and the place was still empty where all the other places were busy. Strange experience and I’d suggest he sat down with his how too greet customers manager and give his head a wobble. Or just maybe his clutch had exploded on his Citroen and we got the brunt of it. Either way I just wanted to share...
Read moreWe chose Le Jalouvre as the place we'd go to to try our first cheese fondue. Unfortunately, we thought the fondue was called a raclette, hence we ordered the wrong thing!
When it arrived and we realized the mistake, although they weren't best pleased that we had made a mistake, they allowed us to swap it for a fondue. And the extra pleasant surprise was that although I wasn't expecting to like the fondue, it was actually really tasty. It was my 10-year-old son that encouraged us to try it and all of us, my husband, my son and I, enjoyed the fondue.
The menu has a wide variety and we will be going back to try the steak and the lasagna dishes. It's a cosy place. Quite close to Le Roc de Tour, the place where we were staying, and we'd...
