Bar La Ruade — Restaurant in Argelès-Gazost

A very well-located bar with impeccable service – very fast and efficient. It's certainly not easy when several coaches full of tourists arrive at the same time, and it's impressive to see the manager handling the situation all by himself. Sandwiches made to order, super fresh and with good local products - artisanal cheeses and charcuterie. The blueberry crepes are a treat. Very wide choice of hot drinks (coffee or Viennese chocolate is to die for) and cold drinks. Large selection of local craft beers. You can also buy good artisanal products from small local producers on site (pâté, bread, jams, honey, regional specialities). In winter or when it rains, the fireplace with a real fire adds to the cosy atmosphere. The bar is friendly to children and animals, and the owners' children and dogs are often around. In a nutshell, it's a very nice, friendly and easy-going place. Every time we are in the vicinity, we go there to rest or to order sandwiches for our hikes. We have seen some tourists behaving in a rather unpleasant way in the bar, though, and perhaps they are the source of the bad reviews, which are...

My wife and I shared a ham and cheese sandwich here. I remember being quite uncomfortable seeing the way the man (slender, tall, wide shoulders, who seemed to do everything) prepared the sandwich without washing his hands before holding/cutting the bread then using fingers to pull cheese and meat from containers and setting them on the roll. Hygienic? He also had a very “big deal / uncaring” manner with my wife who was kindly trying her best to speak in his (French) language. I walked outside away from conversation to avoid saying something bad to him. In other reviews I see restaurant responses that are not too caring as well. After leaving here we saw there were two other places with better reviews and realized we should have checked reviews...

Arrivé à Gavarnie on décide de prendre des sandwichs, on s'arrête dans le première établissement que l'on voit. Grosse erreur !!!!! On rentre dans le restaurant grand sourire et grand bonjour et là, c'est le drame. Une espèce de tête de balet à chiotte nous regarde et ne nous dit ni bonjour ni rien, il nous snobe complètement, pas un mot. On décide de prendre 3 sandwichs quand même mais l'espèce de tête de naze tire une gueule pas possible. Il s'en battait royalement les couilles. Mes amis s'assoient à une table en attendant que Monsieur Conn..... nous préparent notre repas et moi je reste debout. Et là c'est du jamais vu le mec se pointent avec les 3 sandwichs dans le dos de mes amis qui étaient de dos et il leur tends les sandwichs en les agitant plusieurs fois sans rien dire. Moi je voyais la scène mais ne disait rien et l'un de mes amis face à moi avait vu ce qu'il faisait du coin de l'œil mais ne disait rien tellement c'était improbable et irrespectueux.

J'ai jamais vu ça de ma vie dans un restaurant. Ce serveur est l'une des pires raclures. Heureusement la serveuse derrière le bar était la pour remonter le niveau. En tout cas la journée pour la visite du cirque avait bien commencé grâce à cette pourriture qui devrait aller habiter dans une zone de guerre en Syrie si il en a marre de vivre dans un magnifique cadre et que l'accueil des touristes ne l'intéresse guère. Ne faites pas la même erreur que nous et aller plus loin car il y a énormément de lieu où manger et boire.
