La Tête Au Loup — Restaurant in Argentan

Found this excellent restaurant for a stopover en route to Calais in the Michelin Guide because of its Bib Gourmand award.

Great result! This is fine dining at a very fair price. We would recommend opting the more expensive gourmet menu at €56 as this has superb fish options and the hostess (and wife of the chef) had explained that the chef’s real love was for creating his fish dishes.

We had home smoked salmon which had a real depth of flavour without being overpowering and then a sensational turbot dish with a lovely seafood sauce on a very generous portion of this most sought after fish which was cooked to perfection.

A small but important point, the bread was fresh and a really lovely texture coming from the local boulangerie, perfect for mopping up sauce!

Our deserts were clearly cooked freshly to order and again of a high quality.

We found a delicious white wine from Chinon on a sensibly sized wine listto accompany our fish and the whole dining experience was complemented by quiet friendly efficient service.

This is our idea of a nearly perfect French...

Found by chance and sooo pleased we did! Welcoming host who spoke good English although we do try as much as possible to speak French! Had set 3 course menu for €37 pp and it was excellent value for money. We also had the recommendation which was fish of the day which was superb. Would highly recommend for excellent food at a reasonable...

Inadmissible !!! Le chef annule ma réservation de 20 couverts deux jours avant la date, soit disant parce que je n'ai pas appelé assez tôt pour faire le menu unique qu'il m'imposait, au prix de 45€ (max), alors que Mme m'a demandé d'appeler après mercredi pour connaitre le menu. Ils avaient mes coordonnées pour m'appeler à tout moment et établir le menu et passer les commandes. Je ne comprends pas comment on peut être aussi peu commercial, ni comment on peut s'asseoir sur une table de 20x45€ sans les boissons, avec les temps qui courent. De plus le Monsieur a bout d'argument quand je lui dit qu'il aurait dû m'appeler. Le problème du menu aurait été vite règlé, et dans les temps !! Il me raccroche au nez !!! Personne instable, fermée à toute solution, pas commerciale à fuir...
