Le 59 degrés — Restaurant in Aubusson

Went with a group of friends for an evening out after a concert. The dining room is lit up like an airport and it's clear they put a lot of money into the renovations. But it lacked ambiance. We were a bit late for our last seating reservation which we tried to call to let them know but nobody answered the phone. We were met by a frantic server who told us to hurry up and order because the chef wanted to go home. We ordered quickly and the food came out fast before we were served the wine or water which we had to ask for several times. The food looked better than it tasted. I hate to give it a blah review, because we live in La Creuse and love fine dining (I'm a retired fine dining chef) We want upscale restaurants to succeed. We would be frequent visitors but the food has to be worth the almost one hour drive and expense and for the love of god, fix your lighting! I could have worn sunglasses at dinner. Unfortunately, our evening was spoiled by a very disappointing experience. Two servers attended to our table, and while one was polite, the young gentleman was exceedingly rude—banging our food down on the table and ridiculing us. He even went as far as to say that he had better things to do than cater to our every whim, despite the restaurant being informed in advance that two members of our party were vegetarian and one had food allergies. Great experience that is worth the detour! The selection and menus are limited, a sign of freshness and quality. We tried different dishes from the foie gras, the consommé, the pâté to the fish dishes and pièce of beef; all are delicious, and the nougat glacé for dessert is a must too! Attentive and friendly waitress, beautifully remodeled surroundings. Even though the room is quite large with high ceilings, there is no overwhelming noise; you can have a discussion with your party without having to shout.
