The Genets d'Or is a family run hotel in the little village Mandailles-Saint-Julien, located at the end of the beautiful Mandailles valley. Mandailles is a good base for exploring the mountains of the Cantal region. The hotel has been recently renovated and is very clean and modern inside, but retains an authentic outside. The food in the restaurant was also good (we had the set meal at 16 euros each) and focused on local produce. The cold meats, pates and cheeses are all provided by the shop next door, so if you find a favourite , you can buy some for a packed lunch next day. The fresh bread etc is also provided by the bakery next door and was far more than we could eat.||There are hikes from the hotel either along the flat valley or up the steep mountains.
