Really disappointing. I looked on the internet site and saw on the menu, trout and "Baba au rhum" for dessert. That is why I chose to book a table. However, when I was there, the menu didn't have either of the above. I decided to stay and ordered a main dish and desert for 36 euros. So why "disappointing" ?
First, a basket of frozen then reheated bread was served twice. Extremely hard crust on the outside and dry on the inside.
Secondly, the main dish was some lettuce leaves, chips and a rib steak with a side bowl of oily white sauce. The lettuce leaves were saturated also with a white sauce. The chips were under cooked and there were not very many. ( I must be out of touch with the rarity of this product.) The rib steak was so so. A good third of it was gristly and the rest was lacking in taste.
Thirdly. The so called " melted half- cooked-chocolate cake" only existed in its appearance. When you take a spoonful of the outer cake and the hot brown liquid in the middle of the cake, shut your eyes, and try to describe the taste, you can't. It's tasteless ! ( Another industrial wonder. ) So disappointing, and a rip off for the price.
I have often eaten in the Auberge La Beursaudiere a number of years ago, and it wasn't like this. It used to have a reputation of good quality, and copious quantity, at a reasonable price for the average family. The waitress said that the chef had not changed recently. Could it be the change of ownership which has led to a down grade of the food in search of a higher profit ? The appearance was there, but maybe the soul has gone. Perhaps not too late to go back to the old way of...
Read moreFabulous would once again be my immediate response! As we pulled into the small village of Nitry, we could see it was a sleepy, pristine clean town. We found the hotel on the far end of town nestled among vast vineyards & sunflower fields. Breathtaking! As was this hotel! Completely renovated to perfection & very tasteful. The staff just as wonderful. I’ll warn you that you become completely lost as there are many wings & alcoves to the hotel. We were escorted to a 2nd floor that overlooked the courtyard, but with a full sky view that was heavenly & very private. The first night we decide to eat at the restaurant within the hotel which was 5 stars in our book. The Chef came out to introduce himself which was an honor as the food was delicious. The main restaurant itself is rustic, homey and delightful with high wood beamed ceilings & stone walls. A huge double sided fireplace in the center. My husband ordered tender, juicy pork with eggplant. I had haddock, shrimp & scallop risotto perfectly done. A delicious Rose’ and, of course, crème brûlée….one of the best I have had. Our waiter & who appeared to do just about everything was incredibly nice & accommodating. I believe his name was Guttrie or something like that…we thank him sincerely. The morning breakfasts were like no other. Such an array of fabulous choices & homemade honey & jams. Hard & soft boiled eggs. Toast & various sweets. All delicious. |From Nitry we took day trips & found fascinating spots. Every turn in the road brings you to a sunflower field. It was my...
