TLDR: Overall the experience was very enjoyable from the staff to the food and wine, I would recommend this to anyone in the area looking for an enjoyable evening in the area with good food and a friendly atmosphere.
Recently visited on a holiday to France when looking for a nice dining experience in the area. The food was excellent boasting fresh ingredients and skillful cooking however with a few extra efforts the dishes could feel like true fine dining dishes such as tender-stem broccoli instead of what could easily be mistaken for shop bought and baking a fresh sponge for the tiramisu base. The restraunt is light, clean and comfortable but the table arrangement feels quite claustrophobic with tables being close enough to pass the salt without any stretching involved. The staff were delightful and happy, making the entire party feel welcomed and the added extra of being English speaking for those not confident in their French made the evening all the more enjoyable.

Some of us chose the “Menu” and some of us went à la carte, but we all agreed that all three courses were exceptionally good. ||||This is a French restaurant run by an English couple in the heart of Normandy, which probably accounts for the wide variety of dishes on the menu. ||||Between us we had prawns, pâté and poulet for starters. Our mains ranged from the humble, British fish and chips, to pavé de cerf (venison) and “the best pork ever” served on a bed of noodles. Dessert was to die for. It included traditional French cheeses, luscious lemon meringue, and good old English apple pie. ||||Service was quick and friendly and we will certainly...
Read moreMy wife and I have visited L'Abbaye several times during our vacation. To say we were made welcome (despite not having made a reservation) would be an understatement. From the standard of the food and presentation to the friendly professional helpful staff, it all helped to make our stay more memorable. A little personal recommendation. I never drink Guinness outside of Ireland, especially in France. On our first visit, the owner, Peter, said he had the best Guinness in France. Always up for a challenge, I said would test his claim. So I watched him pull the pint, from the initial pour, to letting it sit before the second pour, to the creamy head, to the temperature, and above all else, the taste. I can honestly say that he lived up to his claim to having the best pint in France.
For your friendship and welcome
