We were recommended to eat here by friends who had discovered Auberge le 49 a year or so ago. Having thought it was purely a restaurant, we were pleased to discover that we could stay for a couple of nights instead of being in the hurly burly of Bayeux itself. The rooms are modern, clean, spacious and comfortable, recently converted in an old local Normandy farmstead . Good shower and mattress, lovely fresh linen. If it’s only 4 stars from me for the room, it’s only because there is no direct view over the garden from the room we were in. Good light and ventilation from the skylights however. The owners and all staff were a delight. Commited to their project, innovative in every dish we ate and thoughtful to their clients. The food was delicious, creative, fresh - and priced fairly. Good breakfast. Tables are reassuringly spacious and the dining room is intimate, light and airy. Our two days and nights were a highlight of the trip. With a car, this is an ideal place to stay when visiting Bayeux, the Normandy beaches +++. Mille mercis to Céline...
Read moreThis inn is probably missed by a lot of people checking out Bayeux hotels, because of the location, but the centre of Bayeux is a short drive away. It's in the outskirts of Bayeux.||A restored farm - with a gourmet restaurant across the courtyard, the rooms are quiet and very-up-to-date. And the price was great. They were very helpful.||The continental breakfast was really good. Parking was free and the gate was closed at night. Much better than the downtown hotel options.||Easy access to the roads to the D-Day beaches. Important to me to see where my Dad spent June 6 1944.||Our one regret was missing trying the restaurant - we had to leave early because of the second September day-of-protest threatened our paid train reservations to Lyon. They were able to accommodate us.||Overall a great stay, and if we ever get back, this would...
Read moreWow! What an amazing find. We came here for lunch and found we were the only patrons and they’d stayed open just for us! Monsieur et Madame greeted us and made us feel remarkably welcome even though they could have been enjoying an afternoon off. Then there is the food! Fresh, delicate, balanced and beautifully presented. I had the mackerel tartare with the most incredible lemongrass sorbet followed by pollock that must have been caught about 5 minutes before and then finished it off with madame’s suggestion of profiteroles, who was I to argue, and I’m glad I didn’t. Some of the best food I’ve ever had and I’ve been privileged to eat at some pretty incredible places. A very talented chef who is very passionate and proud of her restaurant, and rightly so. If you’re in the area and enjoy good food...
