My wife and I were visiting her family in the South West of France this past September and we wanted to explore St Jean Pied de Port before heading South to Spain. All of the hotels we were interested in in St Jean Pied de Port were sold out so we began to explore other options close by. Thanks to Trip Advisor we discovered this gem of a place and decided to spend a night here. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and joy from the entire staff (most of whom are family). We were given a great room and took advantage of the dinner that is included with the room at a certain price point. When the staff discovered that my wife was not only vegetarian but also gluten free they went far above and beyond to take care of her every need and make sure she had something delicious and appropriate for her dietary needs.||||We had such an amazing night we decided to forgo Spain and spend another night at the hotel and explore the nearby Pyrenees region. We discovered a fantastic mountainside restaurant (the name escapes me) and drove along the beautiful road that takes you up and through the Pyrenees. Upon returning to the Hotel we were again greeted as if we were part of the family and I took full advantage of the amazing pool and indoor spa area and unwound in the Jacuzzi and Sauna.||||We were terribly sad to leave as the Hotel and surrounding area are full of beauty and local charm and we had become so attached to the staff and the sweet little hotel Pug dog.||||I highly recommend this hotel in every regard. Nice, comfortable rooms, great restaurant, excellent, central location to many many locales and activities and a staff that is family and treats guests as if they were also a part of the family. ||||There's a reason for so many 5 Star reviews and we feel honored to join those.||||We can't wait to...

Read moreLeft it a bit late to book in this area of Pays Basque, but from what we know now this would have been our first choice. Prices as a two-star hotel this has five-star hospitality and first-class Basque cooking - plus a pool, sauna and gym. ||||A warm welcome awaited us, all the staff treated the guests as friends and family - and perhaps they were as we had the impression that some were regular guests and some were locals come for a splendid meal. ||||We stayed 4 nights, half-board - which is a really excellent deal, with assurance that unfinished wine bottles were held over from one dinner to another. We enjoyed local red, white and rose - to match the various dishes that were put before us from a fixed menu.||||We had a good room (18) in the hotel - the Annex was only a couple of minutes walk away and probably had the better views.||||We had opted to do without a car and chose this in part as it is close by the Osses-St Martin d'Arrossa Station. That is one stop from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port which is the end of the line from Bayonne on a train ride which is itself a delight as it snakes up the valley by the river. ||||The train timetable is attached. We had day trips to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (which had a lively weekend of music) and to Cambo-les-Bains (for Villa Arnaga and a pleasant town). ||||Minor niggles:||The wifi is not that good, and more could be provided about the local walks we discovered - perhaps a small local map could be drawn & printed. But all that is to nit pick - as we had very pleasant and...
