Hôtel Restaurant Bergara — Restaurant in Bayonne

I recently stayed at the Bergara during a pre-trip swing through the Basque Country for Spyns' 2018 Tour de France trip. I didn't have a reservation, stopped for lunch, and so enjoyed my lunch that I spent the night. I wasn't disappointed. Starting with the positives, the hotel has an excellent location right in the village centre. My room (205) was clean, bright, large, and had a huge bathroom. The balcony and lovely views of the Basque countryside were great. My room also had a kitchenette, although i didn't use it. My room was immaculately clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was lots of space for me to set up my computer as this was a work trip. Another positive was the restaurant. Even by very high French standards, my lunch was excellent (Basque veal stew) and reasonably-priced. Breakfast the following day was also very good with fresh croissants and homemade jams. Service was both friendly and efficient. I believe the owner and her daughters manage the hotel and it was nice to see friends and family alike stop for a drink or coffee at the hotel bar. The only negatives I can think of were the bedspread, while clean, was clearly from the 90s and my room had been a bit haphazardly renovated with some missing bathroom tiles and various boards covering holes in the walls. But for the price, food, and location this place was an A+. I look forward to returning for Spyns Tour de France trip...

Our room was very spacious with a hall / dining area, mini kitchen and full bathroom.||The restaurant has been extensively modernised and very tastefully done. The menus varied and extensive. ||All staff very helpful and when no taxi's were available the owners daughter drove us to the next village and back later.||If I'd checked the website I'd have brought swimmers for the...
