Summary: Good, but not great. The food was good, but the experience didn't quite live up to expectations.
The individual aspects below
Head of house: Excellent. Very attentive to detail and professional yet friendly.
Food: Good, but lacking when it came to the details. The fish main course was a bit cold by the time it came, and while the egg-mushroom starters were very flavorful, they were also over salted, and the tempura shrimp were a bit under fried (not raw, just a bit dough-ey and lacking a crispness). The bread rolls they offered from the bread basket were fairly dry (cute, but would have preferred fresher sliced bread). The pork neck main was excellent, and the chocolate dessert was good.
Wait staff: Seemed inexperienced. My wife is celiac and even though it was noted in the reservation and the head of house confirmed it upon arrival, when the amuse bouche was brought out it consisted of two glutinous items. First no comment was made whether or not they were gluten free, I then asked because tempura is rarely gluten free and the waitress said she didn't know and would ask. She came back and said that yes, the tempura contained gluten and then walked off. No mention of the other item. At this level of restaurant I'd expect them to offer some replacement (eg for the shrimp, an option would be to just pan fry it), but if that's not possible then at least let us know if it's gluten free (for both items).
Sommelier: Similar to the wait staff, he seemed inexperienced and was wearing quite a bit of cologne (I wouldn't think the added smell is conducive given the role). We asked for a wine recommendation and he simply said he'd choose this half-bottle. No explanation as to why that wine was fitting or what to expect, nor any contrast to other wines (whether by the glass or full bottles). It didn't give us much confidence in the choice. In the end it was an alright, but not great choice of wine. He did add some helpful commentary on the local Crémant de Bourgogne, which was a nice touch.
Atmosphere: Not particularly cozy. The main room was too bright, and in large part illuminated by cold white lights around the wine fridges. The smaller of the rooms was better, but had no wall decorations apart from a rather dull painting with a South America vibe, which felt a bit out of place (apologies if it was painted by someone from around). Also as a minor nit the tables were finished with a very shiny coating adding to the overall coldness. Lastly the bathrooms were sufficiently hard to find that I walked into the staff changing rooms on my way there.
I think they have potential, but also large room for...
Read moreI was very excited about coming to this restaurant. I had heard and read great things about the food and their wine list. The wine list was excellent with good prices.
we had a bottle of wine they cost about $100 and we ordered the most expensive tasting menu to sample much of what they had to offer they had to offer. The dinner for two persons was a little under $300 including the bottle of wine
The food was another story. The opening dish was overly heavy in a peanut sauce mix with a meat. I could not identify. An asparagus dish over a pastry was not cohesive and just didn’t Satisfy in anyway. following that Sweet breads with duck liver wrapped in a meatball looking shell did not please in anyway. Again, this was in a gloppy sauce like the first dish that was served to me. Following that fish was reasonably good and cooked well. The next dish was razor clams with some type of breaded meat. The dish was OK at best. . Some of the sauces were overpowering on many of the dishes. The food tasted like there was a south Asian influence, primarily Thai. Lots of peanuts soy sauce based sauces.. The desserts were the best part of the meal with excellent presentation and interesting...
Read moreThe food was very disappointing, after reading many reviews, we were expecting something from a different caliber. the experience was the worth that We had for many years. Table between the toilet, the cutlery draw and the entrance with the entrance door constantly opening. We asked to be moved after some people left. The cave was exceptionally stocked but you need sun glasses in the restaurant as the light is so bright, that you could get a migraine in no time. the staff looked so miserable, no smile and acting like robots, I don’t know if they have been overworked or something happened before the service? We hardly finished the main course and left before the cheese and the dessert. No apologies for not meeting our expectation. We left and paid the bill in full. Oh well may be they were...
