The main event here is the food which I will come to later. Times of service restricted. We turned up to book in just after 16:00 only to find the door locked. Returning later we had a cordial reception and shown to our room. This was generally fine. Toilet was separate from shower room and had no natural light. If you were claustrophobic you might have felt uncomfortable but it was OK. The shower room had a liquid soap dispenser beside the sink and within the shower cubicle, and a tissue dispenser. The shower had an uncomfortably sloping floor towards the central drain. The shower head was on a fixed holder at about 1.65m so only useful for very short people. It really needs to be raised by 30cm at least. Otherwise it worked well. Indeed the usual problem of a mirror steaming up in this type of room was well ameliorated by the extractor which seemed to function without any noise. The bedroom had a comfy double bed with a good quality duvet. The "headboard" was a short curtain on a rail which wasn't comfortable behind one's head but a useful cushion was provided to deal with this. The heating of the room was a mystery. There was a large old radiator but we never discerned any heat coming from it. However we were never cold. Dinner was THE event here. The diningroom features well lit linen covered tables with silver cutlery. Our aperitif of kirs had a very generous amount of Cassis. The food was FANTASTIC. All clearly freshly made, perfectly seasoned and cook and served with aplomb. This was Michelin star quality! After an excellent night's sleep in our very quiet room we enjoyed breakfast. This is available between 8am to 9am. We were given two good sized croissants. Coffee came from a machine with an instruction list above it. We only saw one cereal which looked like a chocolate covered something. There was fresh bread, some sachets of emmantal cheese which were difficult to open, plain yogurt, fresh fruit, eggs for boiling, charcuterie, fruit juices, butter, honey and strawberry jam. Nice place. Lovely people. With such great food we are...
Read moreBy chance we found this gem by visiting Fixin while we were unhappy with another hotel we booked for 5 nights. We were so happy when “chez Jeannette” had a room for our remaining 3-night stay. Bedroom was cosy, bed perfect, calm setting, good breakfast with the chef’s 5’ egg, nice terrasse for apéritif and dinner. The owner is very welcoming and her husband is an excellent cook. We were simply happy and we advised the address to travellers we met in the meantime. We will come back to visit the region again and for sure we will come back to stay at...
