Brasserie La Licorne — Restaurant in Bellac

We went for their fish & chips on Friday evening, it was simply the best fish & chips I have had in all my days of living in France. We have tried all the other places offering fish & chips (including the fish n Chip shop), all are producing the same quality, under cooked fish, it looks nice but half cooked batter is makes the fish look big because it smells up before it fully cooked, this results in nice "looking" fish but the reality is a soggy mess! Others offer oil cooked fish & chips which are and oil filled mess leaving you with indigestion all night, as for them serving out of a van, it's a disgrace to call what they produce as edible food! The batter here #Brasseeir La Lucorne was perfectly cooked, stuck to the fish as it should be, The cod was fresh beautiful fish and the chips were outstanding, the flakes of fish just perfectly cooked not some soggy mess underneath the crisp exterior.

I was brought up in a fish & chips shop, my parents were fish mongers, wet fish in day and fish & chips lunch and evening, their shop was always packed with people travelling miles for their quality fresh fish and fish & chips, so I know what I am talking about and I know all the tricks of the trade and I know good fish & chips and these were simply outstanding. This restaurant gets 100% score from me. Now I have discovered them I shall be back time and time again, I strongly suggest you all try them and forget...

If you are looking for a run of the mill eatery, this Brasserie is not for you. No burgers in a bun here. From the decor to the menu, attention has been paid to detail. French and English are spoken fluently. The day time menu is well thought out and choices are excellent, I had egg mayo but with a difference , medallion of pork, almond tart to finish all home made, great choice of beers on tap all at reasonable prices. Friday and Saturday nights you will find their excellent Fish and Chips menu available for sit in and take away. Service is brisk and always helpful with a smile. Myself and a couple of friends went here for the first time today. I had often thought of popping in for a meal but the opportunity did not present itself until today. I’m so glad i did as always great to find a little gem like this where the food is delicious along with a friendly service. There is seating indoors along with ample seating outdoors. I can’t praise this little restaurant enough, at 15€ for the plate du jour, nicely presented dishes, cooked as ordered and served with a smile from very busy and attentive staff it’s one to visit...
