Staff were seriously unfriendly, food was not great. First night it took three hours to have supper. No concession made that we had kids , i.e. put them first. They kept putting us in dreadful table right by the pebble dash wall of the house until we insisted on a table further out into the garden. Waitresses distinctly unfriendly when asked for drinks. Husband asked twice then I had to ask a third time. His comment was that the waitress thought it was below her to bring drinks. We are just about able to laugh about the hotel being in somewhere called Chitenay. I unfortunately suffered a slipped disc (which I have since had an operation for). When my disc had slipped and I was in significant pain and unable to stand or sit the hotel wouldn’t find a room for me to lay down even though we had checked out before the time specified. They suggested to our rep that I go into the garden and find somewhere to lie down. There were no loungers in garden just uncomfortable wooden seats and scratchy unkempt grass. The pool had no greenery around it felt like a garden in a new build house where someone had just moved in. The hotel felt too small for number of guests. Our room was at the top of the house and was like something out of the 50's shabby, old carpet, air con which hit my neck and was the final straw for my slipped disc. The bathroom was quite clean and refurbed.

Trop...

I visited for a weekend and stayed for two nights at Auberge du Centre. As this was a hotel and restaurant I am giving a combined review. First the place is perfectly situated such that you can bike from castle to castle in the area. The hotel even has bike rentals which makes it very convenient in that you don't need to bring your bikes along or drive to another location to rent. The rooms, pool and garden area were perfect. Regarding the cuisine, it's traditional French but with some twists. Overall I really enjoyed both the food and the fact that they had beer on tap. The only thing I could fault them for is the high prices for food and drink. We spent two nights and had breakfast twice and dinner twice. We managed to pay more for food and drink than we did for the room; admittedly there was a bit of sticker shock at the time of check-out. Other than this, I would highly recommend the place.

Beautiful place, excellent central location to visit the castles in the vicinity. The breakfast is served in a beautiful sunny breakfast room, with nice selections of cheese, meats, breads, coffee. They make you feel at home. Special thanks to Laure, who graciously put a lot of work accommodating our - out of our control - changing late night arrival times. Thank you Laure 😊 I would definitely stay here again.

Rooms are small with signs of wear, however, beds are comfortable with the only noise coming from birds singing from dawn to dusk. Dining experience was excellent with sumptuous food on the limited menu and attentive service. Overall, an enjoyable stay in a very convenient location.
