Auberge de la Cascade du Rouget — Restaurant in Bonneville

One of the worst meals and service I've had in years. Get a beer or something (at best), nothing more. Abysmal Fondue.

We went in around 7PM after receiving a recommendation from another restaurant in Sixt-fer-a-cheval that was full for Fondue. Apparently they didn't know what they were recommending.

It was getting dark and we didn't spot it right away but this is a sort of tourist trap/locations overlooking the falls where you i guess suppose to have a beer or coffee only.

Seems to be a family owned place. The family was hanging out around the bar having a good time and pretty much ignored us.

I guess they've had enough visitors for one day. Or they don't like Foreigner. They also almost didn't speak a word of English (which we can handle..).

We ordered Fondue which arrived half melted cheese and half watery substance. The two parts didn't merge.. very sad looking. Side Salad had dressing from a bottle and was also sad looking.

Service was abysmal, they saw we were looking but just ignored us. Several times. Like they were doing us a favor. Finally my wife and kid went into the car already because we wanted to get out but couldn't cause they ignored us and we couldn't get the bill. I finally had to walk to the bar and ask for the Bill.

Service was done by apparently the two daughters. The youngest one tried to be nice (I guess she felt sorry for us or something) the older one (both teens I guess) was on the path to becoming fully antipathetic.

Toilet was dark, the light was not on.

Overall , very unfriendly atmosphere, bad food, place seems kind of run down.

We visited this restaurant as a family. My wife, two children (who are half Indian), and my mother-in-law were treated normally. But I, because of my skin color, was treated with clear disrespect. The female server was cold and rude to me from the beginning, ignoring me while behaving politely toward the rest of my family, who have a more European appearance.

This kind of behavior was painful and obvious — and it's unacceptable in a tourist area. I was shocked, and unfortunately, after checking Google, I saw that others have reported similar racist experiences here.

Je suis allé dans ce restaurant avec ma femme, nos deux enfants (moitié indiens) et ma belle-mère. Eux ont été bien traités. Mais moi, à cause de ma couleur de peau, la serveuse m’a ignoré et a été très impolie. Le contraste avec le traitement de ma famille (à l’apparence plus européenne) était évident.

C’est inacceptable dans un lieu touristique. Après cette mauvaise expérience, j’ai vu que d’autres personnes ont aussi dénoncé un comportement raciste ici.

I will be reporting this incident to the French Equality Ombudsman (Défenseur des droits), the DGCCRF consumer authority, and the local tourism board. Discrimination like this is illegal in France and will not be ignored.

A beautiful view that this restaurant does not deserved.
