The warm welcome from the hotel owner - a charming, lively elderly lady - made for a personal and great start. She explained everything, accompanied you to the room and made sure you were fine before leaving. If only all welcomes were so friendly and genuine. Her daughter runs the restaurant of the hotel. Like mother like daughter she is equally welcoming and congenial. Her partner is as well. The room we were given had a great balcony overlooking the river although trees obscured the direct view. It is only a few meters away though and it was a joy to hear the rustling water at night with our window open. The room is basic and sobre but came with a kitchenette. Everything you could need to cook simple meals was there: cutlery, glasses, pans... The room had a microwave and a fridge. The room also had a round ample table with chairs to enjoy your self-made meal or snack. The balcony was great: spatious and facing the east. Basking there in the light of the morning sun was a delight. We had dinner and lunch in the restaurant. The food was good and flavourful. We would recommend the Truite en Bleue. The commis will go fetch the living fish across the street. Minutes later it will be served on your plate poached in a vegetable broth and served with potatoes. Despite the name 'en Bleue' no blue cheese is used in this recipe. The name derives from the fact that the skin of the fish turns blueish in this recipe. Tip: if you want to leave the window open at night, you may want to bring Mosquito repellent.||There is not much to fault. The rooms are basic but clean and well- equipped. The price is commensurate to the comfort level offered. If we could have changed something it would be the individual beds. They were very narrow and not the most comfortable. Mine squeaked at every move. The beach chairs on the balcony could be replaced too. The textile is old and faded by the sunlight which makes them...

Read moreThis was a great experience. The hotel is next to a rushing stream in a small, quite village. Sleeping at night was great, both no road noise and the sound from the rushing stream. The rooms are dated and could use a bit of updating but for the money it was more than fine. The family who own and run it could not have been nicer. Unfortunately I speak no French and they speak very little English and no German so there was a lot of hand signals used to communicate but we got through it just fine. The hotel is half way up Pelvoux from Vallouise and is perfect if you are a cycler. I ride a high end BMC race bike and kept it out of the balcony. Having the bike in the room was no problem and the space worked out fine. There was a kitchenette so storing food and drinks was easy. The hotel restaurant was fantastic, see my separate.||||Con:||Rooms are a bit dated||Internet was a challenge||||Pro:||The service and the family running the hotel||Location||Cyclist friendly||Hotel restaurant||Good...
