Restaurant Le Bistrot Gourmand — Restaurant in Brignoles

Nice location, but only interested in making money out of tourists who don't know any better. Wines from 30 Euros a bottle, no cheaper housewine option. No 'a la carte', just one limited menu at 30 Euros. Food nice, but not great, and very small portions. Our veggie friend was treated as a nuisance, which was very unpleasant. Her choice was limited to having 2 starters: the melon with ham (without the ham), followed by the gazpacho. When the melon came it had to be sent back because it had the ham on it, and the gazpacho as a mains was exactly as small as it had been served to another friend as a starter. They still charged her the full 30 Euros, by the way. The 'grand cafe au lait' was half the normal size, but still cost 2,50. A shameful performance, to be honest. We were all hungry...

Style over substance sadly. A fabulous location sitting in the square underneath the shadow of the chateau in Entrecasteaux. Beautiful ambience and a warm welcome by friendly owner and staff. Unfortunately the food was pretty mediocre; lukewarm duck and dry stodgy salmon tagliatelle. Overpriced and not a patch on the cuisine at Chez Ellie further down the high street. The owner would have been better turning her attention to interior design at which she clearly excels. Passez votre chemin. Accueil convivial comme chez mémé , on se dit ça va être fun. On papote, On se fait tutoyer, c'est décalé comme on aime ... Malheureusement les plats ne sont pas vraiment détaillés et pourtant on a posé des questions. On renvoie un des plats (crevettes marinées worcestire sauce : c'est particulier,il faut l'annoncer !) : réponse obtenue : c'est très bon ... puis ... j'ai pas le temps, j'ai d'autres clients .
